Job Description
Introduction:
The Nurse Practitioner (Pediatrics) is a licensed independent practitioner who provides routine pediatric health care and management of patients with acute and chronic complaints, in collaboration with the Director of Pediatrics and the Chief Medical Officer.
Essential Responsibilities:

Assess and evaluates growth patterns. Educates patients and families about specific conditions related to children’s development. Evaluates developmental milestones and educates parents about normal growth and development. Orders and interprets laboratory diagnostic tests. Evaluates and treats patients with acute and chronic complaints in accordance to written standards. Obtains complex histories and performs patient physical exams with assessment of normal or abnormal findings on patients according to written procedures. Performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders laboratory studies, radiology exams, EKG’s and other special exams in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care. Perform physicals examinations, including well-child exams, school, and sports physicals. Performs preventive care and developmental check-ups. When necessary, acts as a liaison between patients, their families, and doctors. Refers patients and their families to specialists, community resources and communicates follow-up steps. Documents and reports concerns, such as abuse, neglect, or developmental delays. Carries out patient care services, maintains a record of the patient's progress, and consults with supervising physician when patient's progress does not meet anticipated and/or predetermined criteria. Orders and furnishes medications according to written standards. Participates in multidisciplinary teams to improve patient care processes and outcomes. Tracks quality assurance data and monitors for acute and chronic care management. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Graduate of an Accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Current Advance Practice Registered Nurse License
Current Nurse Practitioner’s certification in specialty area (Pediatrics).
Current CPR/BLS provider card.
Current DEA certificate without restriction
Minimum of 3 years previous experience in a family health center preferred.
Language Skills:
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required of the Position:
Knowledge of providing medical treatment to infants, children, youth and young adults.
Excellent communication skills to manage a wide range of relationships with colleagues, and patients and their families. Emotional resilience, a calm temperament and the ability to work well under pressure. Skills in teamwork and the capacity to lead multidisciplinary teams. Problem-solving and diagnostic skills. Skill in reading and interpreting clinical data.
Ability to respond quickly to emergencies occurring in the Health Center. Ability to treat, counsel and educate patients and their families. Ability to be mobile and sufficiently provide care to a variety of patients at an adequate pace. Must have manual dexterity sufficient to perform procedures usually performed in this specialty. Ability to work with ethnically diverse cultures. Ability to quickly familiarize and adapt to EMR system.
