Job Description
Brief Summary: The Freight Coordinator is responsible for coordinating freight activity, producing timely and accurate freight quotes, managing freight claims, supporting customer and internal stakeholder needs, and driving continuous improvement within freight and logistics processes. This role supports Afton customers by partnering with internal teams, carriers, and freight partners to ensure shipments are quoted, executed, tracked, and resolved in a cost-effective and service-focused manner.
ACTIVITES/TASKS
Quote freight for all customers, including internal quote requests from sister
companies as needed.
Coordinate with internal teams, customers, and carriers to gather accurate
shipment details, evaluate freight options, and provide quotes that balance cost,
timing, service level, and customer requirements.
Manage all freight claims from initiation through resolution, including
documentation, follow-up, escalation, recovery tracking, and efforts to recover the
maximum amount possible.
Track freight claim performance and recovery metrics, report trends, and identify
opportunities to reduce claim frequency, product damage, shipping errors, and
related costs.
Develop, improve, and maintain processes, templates, tools, and reporting
methods that enable faster, more consistent, and more accurate freight quotes.
Lead continuous improvement efforts within freight and logistics processes,
including tracking issues, analyzing root causes, reporting results, implementing
countermeasures, and monitoring effectiveness.
Review, organize, and manage freight contracts, including rate agreements, terms,
carrier commitments, renewal timing, and compliance with agreed pricing
structures.
Monitor carrier performance, freight costs, claim trends, quote accuracy, and
service reliability to support operational decision-making.
Partner with shipping, customer service, sales, operations, and finance teams to
resolve shipment exceptions, billing discrepancies, service issues, and freight-
related customer concerns.
Maintain accurate freight records, quote history, carrier documentation, claim files,
contracts, and reports in designated systems and shared files.
Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

• Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach with hands and arms,
talk, hear, and perform hands-on production work in a manufacturing facility.
• Employee will frequently lift, carry, push, pull, and/or move product, materials,
tools, and equipment.
• Manufacturing/factory setting may include exposure to heat, cold, dust, noise,
vibration, moving equipment, forklifts, chemicals, odors, and other production-
related conditions.
• Must follow all safety rules, use required personal protective equipment, and
help promote a clean, organized, and hazard-aware work area.
• Ability to lift and carry 70lbs on a regular basis with or without reasonable
accommodation
PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES DESIRED
• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in
supply chain, logistics, business, or a related field preferred.
• Prior experience in logistics, freight coordination, shipping, transportation,
supply chain, customer service, or related operations preferred.
• Experience obtaining freight quotes, working with carriers, reviewing freight
invoices, or managing claims is strongly preferred.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and common business systems;
experience with ERP, TMS, carrier portals, or freight platforms preferred.
• Strong communication, follow-up, organization, analytical, and problem-solving
skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, resolve exceptions, and
maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
• Ensures freight information, quotes, claims, contracts, and records are
complete and reliable.
• Responds promptly to internal and external customer needs and supports
service commitments.
• Identifies recurring issues, recommends improvements, and follows through on
corrective actions.
• Uses data, trends, and metrics to improve freight performance and reduce
preventable costs.
• Works effectively with internal teams, carriers, and customers to resolve issues
and improve logistics outcomes.
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
