SENIOR HITL ENGINEER/ANALYST (EO/IR/LASER SEEKERS/SENSORS)

CLASSIFICATION: Senior HITL Engineer/Analyst (EO/IR/LASER SEEKERS/SENSORS)

GRADE: Exempt; Regular, Full-Time

REPORTS TO: Supervisor

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provide senior level expertise to resolve moderately to very challenging problems in the area of responsibility. Work independently in nearly all cases with rare need to consult with principal level expertise on problems of exceptional difficulty. Must be proficient in software development in the GWEFRTS framework. Support the

development of closed-loop HITL simulations of guided weapons and IRCM systems utilizing the GWEFRTS framework.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Develop and integrate HITL software for simulated air-to-air, surface-to-air, and air-to-surface weapons engagements.
  • These simulations incorporate both hardware and software model elements into a single HITL simulation used for test and evaluation of weapon systems and include models of kinematics, dynamics, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electromechanical control actuators and components such as linear and angular accelerometers, gyroscopes, rate sensors, barometers, and EO, IR and LASER seekers/sensors.
  • These models are required to execute in real-time at integration rates exceeding 2000 Hz.
  • Model airframe dynamics based on wind tunnel or computer-generated aerodynamic data.
  • Develop and implement target models including environmental effects.
  • Interface the simulation software to the weapon system under test and the GWEF test equipment, including flight motion simulators; EO, IR and LASER target simulators; Global Positioning System (GPS); and other components.
  • Integrate the simulation software and hardware components to form a working simulation and troubleshoot new or existing simulations; these simulations operate on a variety of computer platforms, including Linux workstations and PC compatibles.
  • Execute a validation plan to establish the simulation’s validity and limitations, verify and validate HITL simulations against other simulations and against actual ground and flight tests and validate simulation data collected for specific test programs.
  • Must be proficient in software development in MATLAB/Simulink, C and C++ to develop and modify simulations written in MATLAB/Simulink, C, and C++.
  • Act as the GWEF closed-loop technical expert and HITL specialist, advising facility engineers and analysts on complex HITL issues. Analyze independently developed HITL simulations, identify any performance issues and resolve them.


Job Requirements:

OTHER DUTIES: Additional duties may be assigned to support contract/mission support requirements in job-related areas.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have a MS from an accredited school in Aeronautical/Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or a closely related technical field as appropriate to the position and a minimum of ten years of experience in the duties as specified above; or BS from an accredited school in Aeronautical/Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or a closely related technical field as appropriate to the position and a minimum of thirteen years of experience in the duties as specified above. Must be proficient in software development.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Top Secret security clearance. Candidates may have a Secret security clearance that has been adjudicated within the last 4 years. Must meet requirements to operate in enhanced security environments. All selected candidates must undergo and successfully pass a background investigation and drug test as a condition of placement into this position. Supports E-OMS operational objectives. Observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies; supports Process Improvement.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Duties are normally performed in an office environment with some duties performed outside in the field.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position will be subject to substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Must be able to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; and requires very little lifting or moving of heavy objects or materials and require very little lifting or moving of heavy objects or materials.
