Job Description
Essential Functions of the Position
- Under the direction of the Maintenance & Facilities Manager, maintains the grounds, including mowing, irrigation and general upkeep of plantings, fences and building facades at several company locations in the Fort Worth area, including the Joshua ranch. Ensure all facilities and grounds are maintained in a safe, environmentally friendly, and professional manner. Ensure waste is removed from trash cans and grounds around company facilities.
- Perform routine maintenance of all areas and assigned facilities as assigned by the Maintenance & Facilities Manager.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
- Transport equipment and or animals between company locations, as assigned.
- Purchase supplies and equipment as approved by management.
- Adheres to highest safety standards; ensures the facility meets OSHA requirements.
- Safely operate and maintain company vehicles and equipment. Maintain and understand thoroughly the general equipment needed for the daily operations of company facilities. Identify and correct safety issues promptly.
- Assist Development Department with Gift in Kind Donations – picking up and unloading pallets, storing items.
- Maintain workspace and supplies in a safe, neat and orderly manner. Ensure equipment is properly and securely stored.
- Represent the Humane Society of North Texas by providing excellent customer service and focus.
- Protect the confidential information on customers, donors, community service and employees..
- Report to work at assigned start time; go to/return from breaks and lunch at assigned times; leave work at assigned time.
- Maintain accurate information and record keeping, to include vehicles, equipment, and facilities and maintenance program.
- Coordinate community service personnel, to include time tracking and general coordination of community service program.
- Coordinate volunteer activities when they are assigned to helping the maintenance department.
- Coordinate special activities as directed by management.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities Needed to Perform the Essential Functions of this Position
- Follow the mission of the Humane Society of North Texas.
- Ability to represent the Humane Society of North Texas in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers, community service and staff.
- Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships within the Humane Society of North Texas, with volunteers, the public, and be a team player.
- Must be patient, courteous and work well under stressful conditions.
- Knowledge and ability to accurately work with detailed information in paper and computerized format.
- Must be detail oriented and have strong time management skills.
- Strong project management skills; takes initiative to ensure all projects are on schedule; notifies manager promptly if deadlines are not met.
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively.
- Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures.
- Must be patient, courteous and work well under stressful conditions.
- Must have a valid Texas drivers’ license and qualify as insurable driver on company insurance plan.
- Must be able to pull a trailer (e.g. adoption trailer, horse trailer, flatbed) in a safe manner.
- Regular exposure to animal odors, diseases, possible contagious conditions, bites, scratches, animal waste and moderate noise levels.

- This position is regularly required to use hands to fingers, handle, talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, bend, kneel or crouch.
- The position holder must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance, up to 80 pounds with assistance.
- Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
- While performing the duties of this job this position may be exposed to animal odors or airborne particles.
- Exposure to chemicals and chemical fumes.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Position will both work indoors and outdoors with exposure to elements.
- Drive company vehicles on a daily basis to other locations and vendors as needed.
- Use power equipment on a daily basis to complete projects as assigned.
- Climb ladders and other use other non-powered equipment frequently to complete projects
Working Conditions
- The individual performing this job may be required to work more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week.
