Job Description
The Counselors for our Kid's Place are responsible for supervising the children in our Afterschool program Monday through Friday 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Also need to be available to work all-day programs on School Holidays.
Responsible for escorting children to classes, following weekly schedules, assisting in room projects, and meeting/greeting parents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Working with Children
o Must use appropriate tone & language when speaking to children
o Must be able to manage children in group setting
o Must be sensitive to individual needs & establish relationships with children
Gym, Swim, Enrichment Classes
o Counselors need to be aware of the classes in which children are enrolled.
o Children need to be marked "P" for present or "A" for absent on class rosters.
o Counselors must monitor & assist children as they change for swim classes.
o Counselors MUST supervise children at all times - both inside and outside. A child should never be in the building without proper supervision.
Parent Interaction
o Counselors will greet each parent as they enter the Kids Place rooms.
o Counselors should speak with parents about positive aspects of each child's day.
o If the child has a minor injury (ie: scraped knee), Counselors can share with parents.
o Areas of great concern ("bad news" or "chronic misbehavior") should not be discussed between Counselors and parents.
o Counselors should speak with Head Teacher and Supervisor regarding these issues and a meeting will be set up with parents to address the matter.
Set Up & Clean Up
o Kids Place Rooms need to be set up ½ hour before children arrive.
o Snack, crafts, projects for the day need to be prepared and set out.
o Room needs to be cleaned up before program ends with mandated bleach ratio.
o Counselors need to encourage "clean up time" with children.
o Lights turned out & door shut
o Proper swipe out.
