Now that you know what we're looking for in talent, let us tell you why you'd want to work at NeoGenomics:
Position Summary:
The Operational Excellence Manager will spearhead continuous improvement initiatives to drive operational excellence across NeoGenomics' core functions, with dual emphasis on supply chain excellence and optimization of laboratory operations processes. This role focuses on enhancing efficiency, reducing costs, improving quality and turnaround times, and ensuring reliable supply of reagents, consumables, and equipment to support high-complexity oncology testing (NGS, FISH, flow cytometry, IHC, etc.). Leveraging Lean, Six Sigma, and change management principles, you will lead projects that eliminate waste, streamline end-to-end processes, and foster a culture of sustained improvement — while supporting the effective implementation and qualification of new systems and technologies in a fast-paced, CLIA/CAP-regulated diagnostics environment. Ultimately, these efforts contribute to faster, more accurate patient results and better support for oncologists and pharma partners.
Core Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute operational excellence programs with primary accountability for supply chain excellence, including procurement optimization, inventory management, vendor performance, logistics, and risk mitigation to ensure uninterrupted availability of critical materials for clinical and pharma services testing.
- Drive targeted supply chain improvements in key metrics such as on-time-in-full delivery, inventory turns, cost per test, supplier quality, waste reduction, and supply chain resilience (e.g., through supplier consolidation, demand forecasting enhancements, and contract negotiations).
- Optimize laboratory operations processes by conducting value stream mapping, bottleneck analysis, and root cause investigations across pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical workflows; implement solutions to reduce turnaround time (TAT), minimize errors, and improve throughput in high-volume testing environments.
- Apply Lean/Six Sigma tools (DMAIC, Kaizen events, 5S, visual management, standardized work, SMED, etc.) to redesign lab processes, including sample accessioning, testing workflows, result reporting, and equipment utilization.
- Partner with laboratory operations, quality/regulatory, supply chain, IT, and finance teams to integrate improvements — such as automation adoption, LIMS/ERP enhancements, digital tools for workflow tracking, and process standardization — while maintaining CLIA, CAP, and other compliance requirements.
- Support systems implementation and qualification initiatives by collaborating on the rollout of new laboratory systems, equipment, or automated workflows; contribute to planning and execution of Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), and Performance Qualification (PQ) activities to ensure validated, reliable performance post-implementation.
- Assist in change management and risk assessments during systems implementations, identifying potential impacts on lab ops and supply chain processes, and driving process optimizations to maximize ROI and minimize validation-related downtime or rework.
- Identify and lead cross-functional projects that bridge supply chain and lab ops, e.g., just-in-time inventory models for reagents tied to test volume forecasting, preventive maintenance programs for instruments to reduce downtime, or waste reduction in consumable usage aligned with new system qualifications.
- Facilitate training, coaching, and capability building for supply chain, lab supervisors, and operations teams on continuous improvement methodologies, change management, and data-driven problem-solving (including basics of systems qualification in regulated settings).
- Monitor and report on project outcomes, including quantifiable savings (cost avoidance/reduction), efficiency gains (e.g., TAT reductions, productivity increases), quality improvements, and ROI; present insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Support broader organizational goals, such as scaling operations for growth, enhancing patient-centric outcomes, and embedding a culture of accountability, innovation, and excellence aligned with NeoGenomics' values (Teamwork, Accountability, Quality, Integrity, Innovation).
Position Objectives:
- Uses effective questioning techniques; demonstrates effective two-way dialogue and negotiation skills
- Develops basic understanding of company products
- Responsive and professional to all levels internally and externally
- Completes individual and/or department objectives and goals assigned by leadership and meets agreed upon deadlines
- Provides quality service to the company’s internal and external customers
- Effectively schedules and manages resources to meet department goals
- Adheres to NeoGenomics’ core values, safety and HR and Compliance policies and procedures
Experience, Education and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
- 5+ years’ experience in Project Management related roles required. Experience in clinical labs, Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Life Sciences, or related field (Master's or MBA preferred).
- 5+ years of progressive experience in operational excellence, process improvement, or lean/six sigma roles, with significant time (3+ years) in supply chain and/or laboratory operations within diagnostics, clinical lab, biotech, pharma, or regulated manufacturing settings.
- Certification in Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt required; Black Belt strongly preferred) and demonstrated success leading DMAIC/Kaizen projects with measurable results.
- Proven track record delivering improvements in supply chain (e.g., cost savings, inventory optimization, supplier reliability) and lab processes (e.g., TAT reduction, workflow efficiency, error minimization biotech), or pharma is highly desirable.
