About the role
The QA Manager is responsible for ensuring the quality, performance, and reliability of retail products through inspection, testing, and data-driven analysis. This role focuses on evaluating returned products, identifying root causes of defects, analyzing return trends, and leading continuous improvement initiatives. The QA Manager will oversee quality processes and collaborate cross-functionally with Quality Assurance, Customer Service, and Operations teams to reduce product defects and improve overall customer satisfaction.
What you'll do
Product Inspection & Testing
- Oversee the inspection and evaluation of returned retail products and samples
- Ensure functional testing is conducted (cooling, heating, leakage, performance validation)
- Review visual inspections for physical damage and cosmetic defects
Root Cause Analysis & Problem Solving
- Lead root cause analysis of product failures using inspection and testing data
- Differentiate between functional defects, cosmetic issues, and customer misuse
- Utilize quality tools (e.g., 5 Whys, RCA) to identify failure trends and implement solutions
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze return data to identify recurring product issues and defect trends
- Oversee maintenance of inspection logs, test results, and quality reports
- Provide actionable insights and recommendations to improve product quality and reduce returns
- Develop and track KPIs and quality metrics related to returns and defects
Product Disposition & Reconditioning
- Establish guidelines for product disposition (resale, refurbishment, parts recovery, scrap)
- Oversee repair or reconditioning processes when applicable
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Partner with Customer Service, Product, and Operations teams to resolve quality issues
- Communicate findings related to defects, missing parts, or misuse
- Lead corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) based on defect trends
Operational Leadership
- Maintain an organized, safe, and efficient workspace (5S standards)
- Oversee inventory reconciliation of returned products
- Ensure compliance with company SOPs and quality standards
- Provide guidance, training, and support to QA/warehouse team members
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher required
- Minimum 2+ years of management or leadership experience required
- 3–5 years of experience in product quality, inspection, or data analysis
- Experience with product testing, returns processing, or quality analysis preferred
- Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with small appliances
- Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
- Basic computer skills (Excel, Word, email, ERP/RMA systems)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
Preferred Skills
- Experience in retail product quality and returns analysis
- Experience in the home appliance industry or similar consumer product categories preferred
- Familiarity with water cooler systems (compressors, heating/cooling, filtration)
- Knowledge of quality tools (RCA, CAPA, 5 Whys)
- Experience using handheld tools and multimeters
- Understanding of continuous improvement practices

The pay range for this role is:
60,000 - 80,000 USD per year(Glendale, CA)
