POSITION SUMMARYThe Full Time Promotores de Salud is responsible for advocating for and providing health education to Spanish dominant immigrant and under/uninsured communities to bridge the gap between their respective communities and the health care system. Build and deepen trust within these communities by identifying, compiling and disseminating resources throughout NYC and Nassau County to connect community members to Planned Parenthood of Greater New Yorks health centers and other community-based organizations. Conduct outreach and facilitate group education sessions throughout the Bronx, Queens, and/or other NYC and Nassau County neighborhoods. Make appointments to Planned Parenthood of Greater New Yorks brick and mortar as well as mobile health centers and provide patient interpretation and support during health center visits. Support the Community Engagement Manager with building and maintaining partnerships with community leaders, community-based organizations, and local businesses as well as basic administration program as needed. Works collaboratively with other Planned Parenthood of Greater New York departments, such as external affairs and organizing, on other community-based engagement and equity initiatives. This is a full-time position located within New York City and involves travel within the region. The Full-Time Promotores de Salud (PdS) sits within the Community Engagement (CE) department and serves as a bridge between Spanish-speaking immigrant and under/uninsured communities and Planned Parenthood of Greater New Yorks (PPGNY) services and ensuring equitable access to care. This role builds trust, provides culturally responsive outreach and education, connects community members to PPGNY health centers and other resources, and supports patients during appointments. The PdS will conduct outreach and education across NYC and Nassau County, make appointments, provide interpretation and support to patients, and collaborate with community-based organizations, local leaders, and internal departments. This position is NYC-based and requires regional travel.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Support (50%) Conduct in-person and remote community outreach across NYC and Nassau County neighborhoods to disseminate sexual and reproductive health information and connect community members to PPGNY services. Identify, build and grow partnerships with local businesses, community leaders and community-based organizations Facilitate in-person and remote group education sessions and workshops in community venues (e.g., community-based organizations, consulates, laundromats, salons). Participate and report back on community meetings and professional development training sessions as requested by supervisor. Partners with the Clinical Services Department to link Latinx immigrants and underserved community members to PPGNY services and provides patient navigation and support. Represents the CE Department and PPGNY at selected internal and external meetings, and consortiums. Collaborates on department initiatives and special projects. Works effectively with volunteers, trainees and other agency personnel. Hold virtual office hours three times per week on a rotating schedule, providing community members the opportunity to ask questions about sexual and reproductive health, schedule appointments to PPGNY health centers, and receive referrals to other resources.
Patient Support and Navigation (15%) Make appointments to PPGNYs health centers and mobile health units using EPIC software. Provide Spanish interpretation and patient support during health center visits. Assist community members in accessing and understanding health services ensuring culturally responsive and equitable care.
Administrative Team Support (15%) Act as a mentor to Promotores de Salud by assisting with trainings and supporting new Promotores. Mentor new PdS and support departmental onboarding and trainings. Plan, schedule and coordinate outreach and education activities. Prepare materials for workshops and events; support set-up and breakdown of community activities.
Data & Reporting (10%) Complete outreach documentation, data collection, and reports accurately and on time.
Special Projects (10%) Additional educational, community engagement, or equity-related initiatives as assigned.

- Bilingual in English and Spanish and knowledgeable about Latin American customs and cultural norms.
- Strong ties to Latin American communities (i.e. South American, Central American, Mexican, or Caribbean) in NYC and Nassau County neighborhoods.
- Committed to empowering and serving as a leader or role model in Latinx communities.
- Familiar with prevailing attitudes toward sexual and reproductive health issues among Latinxs.
- Warm, approachable, empathetic, patient, and nonjudgmental.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills in both Spanish and English.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, as well as Zoom, Teams, or other teleconferencing platforms.
- Flexible work schedule; mornings, evenings, and weekends.
- Ability to travel around NYC and/or Nassau County.
- Requires prolonged sitting and repetitive tasks including use of a computer. Periodic standing, walking, bending. Requires lifting or moving of up to 25 pounds of programming or event materials. Must be able to occasionally walk up and down stairs. Visual acuity sufficient to perform frequent work on a computer screen and review printed reports and other materials. Requires the ability to hear and to communicate orally with others. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets, and will require reaching, grasping, pushing and pulling.
- This job operates in a professional office environment. Potential exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions in a health center environment. Requires travel to various indoor and outdoor environments to conduct programming or events. Requires flexible schedule and during peak activity periods work in excess of 7.5 hours per day and/or 37.5 hours per week.
- Additional languages/dialects beyond Spanish and English a plus.
- Experience in community outreach, advocacy or patient navigation.
