About This Position
The Compounding Pharmacy Technician is an entry-level role responsible assisting with the preparation, counting, labeling, and documentation of designated non-sterile compounded medications. Accuracy, consistency, and strict adherence to SOPs are essential. The Compounding Pharmacy Technician plays a direct role in patient safety and product quality and must demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and a willingness to ask questions when uncertain.

Key Responsibilities
Compliance, Safety and Professional Responsibility
• Demonstrate awareness of responsibilities under state and federal pharmacy laws, regulations, and compounding standards
• Follow all applicable SOPs, safety requirements, and quality standards without exception
• Understand and follow SDS guidelines and proper handling of hazardous, corrosive, or flammable materials
• Maintain patient confidentiality and protect pharmacy data
• Escalate questions, concerns, or errors immediately to supervisors
Production Duties
• Apply pharmaceutical techniques required for non-sterile compounding
• Prepare formulas, package prescription orders, fill containers with correct medications, and affix accurate labels
• Ensure standards for accuracy, potency, and documentation are met
Equipment, Inventory and Environment
• Operate, monitor, and maintain compounding equipment according to manufacturer guidelines
• Maintain appropriate inventory levels for compounding and dispensing materials
• Assist with removal of expired or outdated chemicals and medications
• Complete daily, weekly, and monthly checklist tasks including cleaning, environmental monitoring, and maintenance
• Maintain a clean, organized, and inspection-ready work area at all times
Systems and Communication
• Demonstrate proficiency with pharmacy dispensing software as trained
• Communicate effectively with patients and providers when appropriate and refer questions to supervisors when warranted
• Work cooperatively with pharmacists, technicians, and supervisors to support workflow and quality

Required Qualifications
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification (must be obtained within 6 months of hire)
• Registration with the Tennessee or North Carolina Board of Pharmacy (must be obtained within 90 days of employment)
• Ability to become proficient in non-sterile compounding as verified by competency checklist
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Dependable attendance and consistent job performance
• Strong basic math and calculation skills
• Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn pharmacy software
• Willingness to ask questions and seek clarification when unsure
• Good hand–eye coordination
• Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours)
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
