Neighborhood Preservation Specialist -Rental Licensing at City of Maplewood, Minnesota – Maplewood, Minnesota

Performs inspections and enforcement work to ensure residential properties are maintained and in compliance with housing, property maintenance, rental, and other related codes and ordinances. This position involves significant contact with the public, answering questions, responding to complaints, conducting field inspections, educating, enforcing codes and preparing reports and letters using a specialized database system. Assists with building/ housing/and code enforcement inspections and related duties as needed.

• Employees sit some of the time but may walk or stand for some periods of time.
• This classification involves physical agility requirement such as: climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, repetitive motions and manual dexterity.
• Sensory requirements include standard vision requirements, ability to express and exchange ideas and ability to hear information at normal spoken word levels.

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota driver’s license or equivalent out-of-state driver’s license.
• Six months experience in rental licensing, building construction codes or code enforcement compliance.
• Must be able to obtain ICC International Property Maintenance certification within six months.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Possess or ability to obtain MN Building Official Limited license within one year of hire.
