About This Position

There are 3 shifts available as listed below. It is required that you commit to one of the available shifts. You MUST be able to work the full shift if called to work.

1st shift: 6:45am - 3:15pm

2nd shift: 2:45pm - 11:15pm

3rd Shift: 10:45pm - 7:15am

Position Overview

The PRN Specialist will supervise and mentor youth and young adults in two YCC residential programs:

  • Youth Crisis Shelter (ages 10–17): Provides short-term residential care for male and female youth. The Specialist will support residents by teaching and modeling independent living skills through demonstration, observation, and instruction in both individual and group settings.
  • House of Hope (ages 18–24): Serves homeless young adults in a transitional setting. The Specialist will provide independent living skills, transitional care, and referrals to services as needed, while also ensuring constant supervision and guidance.

In both programs, the Specialist is responsible for maintaining a safe and supportive environment, providing positive mentorship, and ensuring documentation is completed accurately and timely.

This is a PRN position designed to provide flexible support across both the Youth Crisis Shelter and House of Hope, depending on program needs.

Knowledge:

  • Customer and Personal Service- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing youth and families with personal services. This includes youth with needs assessment, meetings quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Crisis Intervention –Knowledge of principles, theories, models, and procedures for counseling of physical/mental/emotional/behavioral dysfunctions.
  • English Language – Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Education and Training – Knowledge of principles and methods for medical instruction for individual purposes.
  • Ethics – Knowledge of nursing ethics.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing youth and families with personal services.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and data processing

Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise, mentor, and monitor resident behavior to ensure safety, security, and positive role modeling.
  • Provide independent living skills training through demonstration, observation, and instruction in both group and individual settings.
  • Review, monitor, and administer medications; ensure medical, medication, and mental health processes are followed.
  • Support residents with daily living needs, including health, hygiene, meals, and preparation for school, work, or activities.
  • Transport residents to appointments and activities as assigned.
  • Assist residents in accessing academic, medical, psychiatric, social, and career development services.
  • Complete all required documentation (admissions, discharges, logs, incident reports, referrals, etc.) accurately and on time.
  • Ensure compliance with agency policies, procedures, and Quality Assurance Standards.
  • Complete required training within established timeframes and maintain acceptable attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma and a minimum of six (6) months related experience; preferably working in a residential shelter with at risk youth. A valid driver’s license and safe driving record is required.

Mathematical Skills and Reasoning Ability

Basic and/or advanced computational skills may be necessary.

Physical Demands

This is a sedentary position, and the incumbent will be required to sit approximately 70 per cent of the time. Little to moderate lifting of less than 25 lbs. may be required.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
