Position Title: Deputy Community Engagement Director
Department: Community Engagement/Executive Operations
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Organizational Relationships: Reports to the Deputy Chief of Staff and works closely with the coordinators on community engagement and constituent services.
Expected Annual Travel and Schedule: Frequent intrastate travel. The office schedule is 9-5 PM with frequent nights and weekend events and meetings.
Expected Travel: About 2 weeks/month of in-state travel.
Summary of Functions: The Deputy Community Engagement Director oversees the Community Engagement Office and the Constituent Services and Correspondence Office for the Governor’s Office. The Deputy Community Engagement Director will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with diverse communities to increase awareness and build support for the Governor’s agenda. This role will focus on high-profile and large-scale event planning, overseeing logistics involving principals and community leaders across Colorado. Additionally, responsibilities include coordinating speaking engagements, assisting in producing weekly newsletters, and assisting with press events, strategic scheduling, special events, and the Governor’s statewide travel. The role will oversee the systems and approval processes for correspondence outgoing and coming into the Governor’s Office, including mail and email correspondence and case work with agencies.

Understanding of accessibility standards for digital content creation.
Strong knowledge of Colorado counties, local issues, and political landscape.
Knowledge of community resources across Colorado that can be utilized by the Governor’s constituency
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and execute high-profile events for the Governor’s Office, including but not limited to: statewide listening tours, State of the State and following statewide tour, bill signings, cultural celebrations, etc.
Supervise 4 FTE in constituent services and community engagement
Oversees the internship program for the Governor’s office.
Broaden the community resources network for the constituent services program.
Respond to stakeholder questions and service requests in a timely and professional manner.
Maintain relationships with agency advocates and ensure timely responses for constituent inquiries.
Develop and implement innovative techniques for community engagement and outreach planning in addition to maintaining those relationships.
Maintain and update stakeholder lists and community contacts.
Increase public support and awareness of the Governor’s agenda and accomplishments through community relationships across all of Colorado.
Collaborate with relevant staff to develop an annual community engagement calendar.
Develop the Governor’s regular community outreach communications including producing and distributing weekly newsletters for community partners and constituency groups and sending out Governor’s Office job openings to community partners.
Assists with the planning and execution of the Governor’s bill signing tour in conjunction with the scheduling, legislative and community engagement and communications teams.
Ensure all external communications from the Governor’s Office follow accessibility guidelines
Develop and maintain relationships through targeted outreach to increase awareness and support of the Governor’s agenda.
Track and maintain community partner contacts and stakeholder groups.
Coordinate speaking engagements and logistics for the Governor and Lt. Governor.
Knowledge of statewide events and meetings that may be of interest to the Administration to be a part of or attend.
Staffing the Governor and Lt. Governor at speaking engagements and community events as needed.
Assist in coordinating press events, community tours, and special events.
Attend scheduling meetings as necessary to provide input on community events and planning.
Collaborate with stakeholders for mutually beneficial partnerships.
Special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Three years of experience in community organizing or related areas
Ability to establish and maintain effective personal relationships with peers, supervisory staff, and other departments and agencies; exemplary customer service and interpersonal skills
Ability to supervise/lead assigned staff
Ability to exercise tact, courtesy and discretion with public officials at various levels of authority and influence as well as the general public
Excellent organization and time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple issues and projects in a very fast-paced environment
Ability to perform a variety of duties daily, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure
Proven ability to work independently and make sound judgments on a day-to-day basis, as well as make informed decisions on behalf of the scheduling team.
Proficiency with Google Products, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML, and Salesforce
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to excel in a very fast-paced, ever-changing professional environment.
Conditions of Employment:
Must be currently employed within the Community Engagement/Executive Operations within the Office of the Governor.
