Job Description
Position Summary
The Safety Manager is responsible for leading and promoting a proactive safety culture throughout the organization by partnering with operations, customers, and employees to identify, evaluate, and eliminate workplace hazards before incidents occur. This position requires a forward-thinking leader who can work independently, build strong relationships with customers, influence operational teams, and serve as a trusted resource for all safety-related matters.
The ideal candidate understands that safety is more than compliance, it is operational excellence. This individual will anticipate emerging risks, develop practical solutions, coach employees, and continuously improve company safety performance while supporting business objectives.
Essential Responsibilities
Safety Leadership
- Champion a proactive safety culture through visible leadership and employee engagement.
- Lead by example and promote personal accountability at every level of the organization.
- Develop initiatives that move the organization beyond compliance toward continuous improvement.
- Identify leading indicators and trends to prevent injuries before they occur.
- Drive behavior-based and condition-based safety initiatives.
Customer Engagement
- Conduct regular customer site visits to strengthen relationships and ensure alignment with customer safety expectations.
- Participate in customer safety meetings, audits, pre-job planning sessions, and contractor evaluations.
- Represent the company as the HSE subject matter expert during customer interactions.
- Assist operations in developing customer-specific safety plans and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
Field Support
- Serve as the primary safety resource for field personnel, supervisors, and managers.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to employees during routine operations.
- Conduct field observations and provide immediate constructive feedback.
- Assist crews with hazard identification and risk mitigation before work begins.
- Support emergency response activities when required.
Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain expert knowledge of applicable OSHA, DOT, EPA, FMCSA, ANSI, and customer-specific requirements.
- Interpret regulations and translate them into practical work practices.
- Ensure company policies remain compliant with changing regulations.
- Lead internal compliance audits and coordinate regulatory inspections.
- Develop corrective actions that address root causes rather than symptoms.
Incident Prevention & Investigation
- Lead investigations into incidents, near misses, and property damage events.
- Utilize root cause analysis methodologies.
- Develop meaningful corrective and preventive actions.
- Share lessons learned across the organization.
- Monitor corrective actions through completion.
- Utilize safety software to upload incidents.
Training & Development
- Develop and deliver engaging safety training programs.
- Coach supervisors in effective safety leadership.
- Evaluate employee competency through field observations.
- Assist with onboarding and mentoring new employees.
- Promote continuous professional development throughout the workforce.
Risk Management
- Evaluate high-risk work activities and recommend appropriate controls.
- Participate in pre-job planning and hazard assessments.
- Review JSAs, work permits, and critical lift plans.
- Assist operations with implementing engineering and administrative controls.
- Recommend improvements that eliminate or reduce exposure to hazards.
Program Development
- Develop, implement, and improve HSE policies, procedures, and standards.
- Analyze safety metrics and identify trends.
- Recommend strategic improvements based on data.
- Support company safety initiatives and campaigns.
- Participate in acquisition integrations and safety program implementation.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate safety documentation and records.
- Prepare reports and KPI dashboards.
- Track training, inspections, corrective actions, and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field (preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of progressive safety leadership experience in industrial, manufacturing, construction, oil & gas, utilities, or related industries.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910 and/or 1926).
- Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong presentation and training abilities.
- Ability to build relationships across all organizational levels.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management software.
- Valid driver's license with ability to travel regularly.

Working Conditions
- Frequent travel to customer locations and company facilities.
- Regular exposure to industrial environments including refineries, chemical plants, manufacturing facilities, power plants, and construction sites.

- Ability to walk long distances, climb stairs and ladders, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
