Summary:
Vighter is recruiting Registered Nurses (RN) with a specialty in the Operating Room (OR) to provide patient care support at the Naval Medical Center, San Diego, CA. The Medical Facilities in and around San Dirgo are rated as a complex medical facility, therefore provides care to Active-Duty Military, Veterans, Veterans and Family members locally and from surrounding states. RNs are responsible to ensure the safety and well-being of all care provided to patients in the facility including proper time out, consent, credentialed staff available, body positioning, documentation of implants or surgical hardware, medication administration, maintaining sterile environments, ensuring necessary supply /equipment availability.
OR RNs provide direct perioperative nursing care, including circulating duties, patient assessment, coordination with surgical and anesthesia teams, maintenance of aseptic technique, documentation, equipment readiness, and adherence to AORN and Joint Commission standards. Nurses may function as team leaders and provide relief charge coverage as required.

Principle Accountabilities:
- Provides the full range of nursing services within the Operating Room and within the scope of practice for a variety of patient-centered specialties and ensures that all Joint Commission standards for care are met during performance of patient care.
- Provide complex and comprehensive professional nursing services within the professional scope of practice for a variety of diagnoses for patients of all ages.
- Operate and monitor specialized equipment including portable dialysis machines, CRRT machines, oxygen, hypothermia units, various types of suction apparatus, infusion equipment, PCA, epidural pumps, sequential compression devices, cardio-respiratory monitors, vital sign monitors.
- Prepare patients for diagnostic or interventional procedures and assist with procedures as necessary.
- Administer medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions.
- Provide clinical guidance to members of the healthcare team in the coordination of patient care.
- Accountable for making patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and skill level.
- Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations.
- Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people to inform the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.
- All documentation, records and reports must meet or exceed established DoD standards to include, but not limited to timeliness, legibility, accuracy, content, and signature.

- Knowledge of regulations (HIPAA/Privacy Act) regarding the confidentiality of patient medical records and information as well as Personally Identifiable Information (PII).

Knowledge and Skills:
- Must have exceptional customer service skills.
- Employees shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the job requirements, including ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment with limited supervision
- Excellent organizational, scheduling and prioritization skills.
Education:
- Holds an Associate of Science degree from an NLN accredited college or university and holds a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of California.
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited university is preferred.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience in an Operating Room within the last two (2) years.
- Must have and maintain certification in Basic Life Support or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association. Excellent problem-solving skills with a willingness to adapt and innovate as needed.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Duty Hours / On-call Requirements:
- The expected duty hours for this position are 8 hours per day and 5 days per week. However, this position supports 24/7 operations which may require work to be conducted at night and on weekends.

Travel:
- As required to satisfy the contractual obligations. Commuting is non-compensatory. All official travel is government funded.

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand or sit for more than 8 hours per day.
- Must be willing to work overtime if necessary.
- Must be able to use an elevator or walk up and down stairs.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and carry up to 10 feet.
- Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders.
- Must be able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print.
- Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
- Must be able to perform duties in an indoor or outdoor environment.
- Must undergo Urine Drug Screening (UDS).
- Must be a Citizen of the United States or legally authorized to work in the United States of America.

Work Schedule: Services Shall be provided Monday through Friday, between the hours of 0600 – 2300 hours. Shifts provided between Monday through Friday will normally be scheduled for 8-hour period, not including an uncompensated 30-minute lunch break. Shifts may also be provided for any four days between Monday through Friday for a 10-hour period not including an uncompensated 60-minute lunch break. Schedule is based on departments needs. In no instance will HCW be required to provide services more than 80 hours per two-week period.
