Job Description
Job Summary: Responsible for supervision of license plates and signage production at the Tag & License Plates Plant located inside Union Correctional Institution, Raiford, FL. Supervises manufacturing and associated processes, assures compliance with product specifications and quality standards to meet sales- and net income targets while achieving the company’s mission of training inmate workers.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.
- Supervise plant production in compliance with company policies and directives as well as FDC rules and regulations.
- Maintain excellent working relationships with the Tag Plant Team, UCI staff, PRI Staff and departments, customers, and vendors.
- Provide support to management to control inventories to ensure raw materials, packaging and ancillary items are available to meet production demand.
- Maintain working knowledge of the license plate production processes and have the ability to train new inmate workers in the manufacture of high-quality license plates.
- Partake in the department cross training rotation for staff.
- Enforce safe work conditions and practices in compliance with regulatory and administrative codes.
- Carry out the hazardous materials and waste program.
- Continuously identify and report process improvement opportunities to management and partake in Kaizen events in and outside of the Tag & License Plates Plant.
- Assist in expense control by monitoring assigned expense ledgers and budgets, report variances and suggest corrective actions.
- Maintain quality control awareness and manage to meet the needs of customer demands.
Education and Experience: High school/GED, + 2 years supervisory experience. Mechanical aptitude and ability, and some manufacturing and shipping experience helpful.
Language Skills: Basic verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.
Mathematical Skills: Basic math skills.
Reasoning Ability: Mechanical aptitude and ability, some manufacturing experience helpful. Training inmates in production and clerical techniques and coordinating manpower and equipment usage.
Specialized Knowledge and/or Skill: Acquire FDC training to supervise inmate workers and have basic computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook). Prioritizes safety, works well with others, and pays close attention to the details. Comfortable overseeing quality control, managing and developing a team, and keeping time and performance on track.
Other Skills and Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills with effective personal time management; honest, dependable, professional, adaptable, and pleasant to work with.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee is regularly required to stand, controls, use feet to operator pedals of a vehicle and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is exposed to fumes or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud – the dust level is moderate.
