This is a full-time, in-office role based in Scottsdale, AZ. We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Cybersecurity and Systems Administrator to lead day-to-day cybersecurity operations while also supporting Windows Server, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Active Directory, and related infrastructure when needed. The primary focus of this role is cybersecurity, including incident response, vulnerability management, security monitoring, policy enforcement, endpoint protection, and risk reduction. The successful candidate must also be capable of stepping in to support core systems administration responsibilities during high-volume periods, project demands, or when the Systems Administrator is unavailable. This is not a junior or entry-level position; it requires strong independent judgment, technical experience, and the ability to operate effectively in a mature enterprise IT environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Cybersecurity
- Serve as the primary internal owner for cybersecurity operations, monitoring, incident response, remediation, and continuous improvement.
- Work with our cybersecurity provider, Darktrace, to monitor, investigate, escalate, and respond to security incidents.
- Use Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Microsoft Defender XDR, Microsoft 365 Defender, Entra ID, Conditional Access, and related tools to improve security posture.
- Develop, enhance, and enforce security policies, standards, baselines, and procedures.
- Lead incident response activities, including containment, eradication, recovery, root-cause analysis, documentation, and follow-up remediation.
- Perform or coordinate vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, risk reviews, and remediation tracking.
- Work with the team to harden servers, endpoints, cloud resources, identities, and administrative access using security best practices.
- Support compliance initiatives, including NIST-aligned controls, technical documentation, evidence gathering, and audit readiness.
- Collaborate with the IT team to manage endpoint protection, security alerts, patching risks, and escalated security concerns.
Infrastructure Management
- Provide support for Microsoft Azure services, including virtual machines, networking, storage, identity, monitoring, and access controls.
- Administer and support Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file services, and related Microsoft infrastructure.
- Help implement and manage Entra ID, Conditional Access, Intune, hybrid identity, privileged access, and identity security controls.
- Assist the Systems Administrator during busy periods, planned maintenance, projects, vacations, absences, or urgent operational needs.
- Provide escalation support to the Helpdesk and infrastructure teams for complex systems, identity, access, endpoint, and cloud issues.
Cloud & Automation
- Automate routine tasks using PowerShell, Azure CLI, or ARM/Bicep templates.
- Support disaster recovery strategies.
- Monitor system health and performance using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Event Viewer.
Documentation & Collaboration
- Help maintain accurate documentation of systems, configurations, and procedures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on IT projects and incident response.
- Provide Tier 2/3 support for escalated issues.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Minimum 4–6+ years of progressive experience across cybersecurity, Windows systems administration, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, and enterprise infrastructure operations.
- Strong hands-on cybersecurity experience, including incident response, vulnerability management, endpoint security, identity protection, security monitoring, and remediation.
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure IaaS/PaaS, Entra ID, Microsoft 365 security tools, Windows Server, and hybrid Microsoft environments.
- Proficient in Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, PowerShell scripting, server hardening, patching, backups, and disaster recovery practices.
- Solid understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, security controls, risk management, cloud security, endpoint protection, and identity-based security.
- Experience with SIEM, EDR/XDR, KQL, vulnerability scanning, log analysis, alert triage, privileged access controls, security documentation and threat hunting.
- Ability to work independently, make sound technical decisions, and operate as a technical resource without junior-level supervision.
Certifications:
Certifications are not required, but relevant intermediate or advanced certifications would be considered an asset.
- Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals
- CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and risk-based decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and incident-reporting abilities.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing operational and security demands, and follow through on remediation activities.
- Comfortable collaborating with internal IT teams, external cybersecurity partners, and business stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
