Position Summary:
Wound Care Nurse Practitioner (NP)
Location: Kellogg, Idaho
Position Summary:
The Wound Care Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing comprehensive wound care services to patients across the continuum of care, including assessment, treatment, follow-up, and patient education. The provider will collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, rehabilitation services, home health, and other interdisciplinary team members to promote optimal wound healing outcomes and reduce complications and hospitalizations.
This position may provide care in outpatient clinic settings, inpatient settings, long-term care facilities, and/or through telehealth services depending on organizational needs.
Primary Responsibilities:- Perform comprehensive wound assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic wounds including:
- diabetic ulcers,
- pressure injuries,
- venous ulcers,
- arterial ulcers,
- surgical wounds,
- traumatic wounds,
- burns,
- and ostomy-related skin conditions.
- Perform wound debridement within scope of practice and competency.
- Order and interpret diagnostic testing including laboratory studies, imaging, vascular studies, and cultures.
- Prescribe medications, dressings, and advanced wound care therapies as appropriate.
- Apply and manage wound care modalities including:
- negative pressure wound therapy,
- compression therapy,
- biologic dressings,
- and skin substitutes.
- Collaborate with physicians and specialists regarding complex cases.
- Provide patient and family education regarding wound prevention and management.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation within the electronic medical record.
- Participate in quality improvement, infection prevention, and wound care program development initiatives.
- Support regulatory compliance and evidence-based clinical practice standards.
Preferred
- Wound Care Certification (WCC, CWCN, CWON, or equivalent)
- Previous wound care or surgical experience
- Experience in rural healthcare or outpatient clinic settings
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of evidence-based wound care practices
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
- Excellent communication and patient education skills
- Familiarity with electronic medical record systems
Schedule
- Full-time or part-time depending on organizational need
- Clinic and/or inpatient rounding schedule as assigned
Compensation
- Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications
- Benefits package available for eligible employees
- Current Nurse Practitioner license in the State of Idaho (or ability to obtain)
- Current DEA registration (if prescribing controlled substances)
- Board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Adult-Gerontology NP (AGNP), or related specialty
- Current BLS certification
