What You Will Do
- The Assistant Director of Events and Operations reports directly to the Associate Athletic Director Events and Facilities and is responsible for assisting in athletics event and facility operations in accordance with the rules and regulations of the University, Ohio Valley Conference, Mid-American Conference, and NCAA.
- Compliance with NCAA rules is of the utmost importance at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
- As a member of the athletics department staff, it is expected that the Assistant Director of Events and Operations will have a full understanding of the NCAA rules that pertain to the position.
- It is also expected that the Assistant Director of Events and Operations will comply with all NCAA rules and if he/she becomes aware, or have reasonable cause to believe, that a violation of a rule has occurred he/she will immediately report it to the Director of Athletics or his/her designee.
- Plan and execute operations for home athletic department events, including set-up, breakdown, and changeovers. This includes staffing, coordinating with internal (i.e. athletics department staff, Facilities Management, Parking, etc) and external stakeholders (i.e. visiting teams, officials, conference office, etc). Serve as lead event coordinator for multiple sorts, as well as secondary event coordinator on an as needed basis.
- Hire, train, and supervise game day staff, including student employees and extra help positions. Develop game day manuals that provide details on responsibilities and expectations for game day staff.
FLSA: Exempt
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications A. Bachelors degree in Campus Recreation or Athletics, Sports Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
OR
B. Three years of responsible experience in the maintenance and operation of sports facilities (such as intercollegiate, recreational, or intramural facilities), two of which were in a supervisory capacity.
One year of experience in the management of sports facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
One year of experience in the management of athletic events
Master's degree preferred
Experience with hiring, training, and supervising event staff
Evidence of strong communication and organizational skills
Certifications that will need to be obtained once hired into this position:
CPR/First Aid Certification
Food Handling Certification
BASSET training
