Job Description

Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) seeks a Data Reconciliation Associate to join our Employer Reporting team. This position performs essential data analysis and review of payroll information submitted by employers participating in MainePERS defined benefit plans. The Data Reconciliation Associate prepares, analyzes, and reconciles employer payroll data with information maintained in MainePERS systems, researches discrepancies, and recommends corrections to help ensure the accuracy and integrity of member data.

The position works collaboratively with employer staff, MainePERS employees, and internal and external auditors to research data issues and develop appropriate solutions. The work requires strong analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, and sound judgment when information is missing, incomplete, or lacks sufficient detail.

What You'll Do

  • Analyze and reconcile employer payroll data.
  • Research discrepancies, inconsistencies, missing information, and other data issues to determine potential causes and appropriate resolutions.
  • Collaborate with employer staff, MainePERS employees, and internal and external auditors to research and resolve data issues.
  • Recommend data corrections based on the results of analysis and reconciliation.
  • Maintain detailed documentation and tracking of data analysis, reconciliation activities, findings, and proposed corrections.
  • Prepare information and progress reports to support management, employer staff, and auditors as required.
  • May verify and approve data corrections processed by others.
  • May support Employer Reporting Account Associates I, II, and III with reconciliations of individual employer accounts as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting or Business with two years of relevant experience in accounting
  • -OR- any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

  • Strong technology skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel at the intermediate level.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience analyzing payroll files.
  • The anticipated starting salary is typically near the minimum of the pay range. Initial placement within the range will be determined based on the successful candidate's relevant education, experience, skills, and other job-related qualifications.
