Job Description
Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast.
GMC has an opening for a Project Architect with extensive practice experience. The position is overseeing projects in the office while managing project team members and consultants. The team member is likely a resource and leader to less experienced staff. They spend the majority of their work time in the office but is also engaged in field work and meetings associated with their projects. The team member may be involved with conceptual design, planning, programming, and similar activities where skillsets allow and is heavily involved in Contractor communications, and likely the responsible professional overseeing each phase of projects including, but not limited to, the technical work, scheduling, budget management, and project communication.
Essential Job Duties
Technical
- Fully competent in all aspects of architecture
- Subject matter expert on Architectural processes, procedures, and technology
- Responsible for projects of a larger scale and complexity; including leadership of lower level staff
- Reviews completed reports, plans, estimates, and calculations
- Responsible for specific technical design aspects of an assigned major project, including investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions that best meets the client’s needs
- Provides professional architectural consultation in the planning, design, and coordination of large complex projects
- Independently applies advanced architectural concepts and designs
- Carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures
- May provide guidance to less experienced architects
- Participates in the conceptual design and provides full support through the entire project
- Serves as a Subject Matter Expert on specialized systems
- Liaises with other Architects and consultants
- Develops and represents lead technical viewpoint on projects
- Coordinates with Department Head on appropriate technical solutions and product strategies
- QA/QC
- Executes cross discipline checks and coordination
- Reviews complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance
- Recognizes and reports risk management issues to Project Architect as appropriate

Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from accredited university
- 10+ Years of relevant experience post-graduation, preferred
- Certification as a licensed professional is required
- Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite
Travel Expectation
Up to 20%; Architectural staff will be expected to travel to various work sites to perform fieldwork, meet with clients, attend professional development opportunities, etc.
Physical Demands
- This position requires work to be performed in an office environment and in the field.
- Work done in the field may consist of exposure to various types of weather and temperatures. You may also be exposed to pollutants, chemicals, insects, and possibly water-borne pathogens, Employees are required to wear appropriate protective clothing and gear when performing fieldwork.
- Office work may consist of prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Movements such as bending, twisting, crouching, etc.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
