Description:

Purpose of the position: Lead the custodial team and oversee custodial and facility services to maintain a safe, functional, clean, and welcoming church campus while supporting church programs, events, and services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

· Plan, schedule, motivate and supervise the work of the custodial staff

· Train, coach, and provide ongoing direction to custodial staff regarding work methods, safety procedures, and best practices

· Ensure custodial compliance with applicable safety rules, regulations, and church policies

· Coordinate and execute room setups and breakdowns for church programs, services and events

· Perform daily inspections to ensure campus is clean, maintained, and safe

· Schedule and coordinate routine cleaning of carpeting, flooring, windows, and maintenance of outside areas

· Maintain inventory and order all janitorial, beverage, and building maintenance supplies

· Keep janitorial storage closets clean, organized, and adequately stocked

· Maintain commercial kitchen equipment in accordance with City of Austin licensing requirements

· Perform minor repairs and routine maintenance of facilities and campus equipment

· Maintain custodial equipment on a routine basis

· Coordinate with vendors and outside groups as necessary

· Ensure campus grounds and facilities present a clean, attractive, and welcoming appearance consistent with church standards

· Ensure campus is properly secured at the end of each day

· Be available for outside events and occasional night and weekend activities on campus

· Perform custodial duties as needed or assigned, including covering for custodial staff during absences

· Maintain a valid Texas driver’s license and operate church vehicles as needed for errands and other job-related activities

· Respond to alarm calls and campus emergencies in accordance with established procedures and on-call expectations

· Perform other duties as assigned, recognizing that responsibilities may change based on campus and ministry needs

Typical Day

A typical day may include troubleshooting a facility issue, performing minor repairs or touch-up painting, preparing spaces for a church or outside event, completing scheduled cleaning and maintenance, or coordinating with a vendor during a service call. The position requires the ability to balance scheduled responsibilities with unexpected or urgent facility needs.

Flexibility, solid problem-solving skills, excellent communication, dependability, and teamwork are essential to success in this position.

Requirements:

Education, Experience & Skills Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Minimum of three years of experience in custodial, facilities or building operations, including supervisory or team-lead experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC systems, basic troubleshooting, and coordination with a licensed HVAC contractor
  • Demonstrated ability to train, schedule, supervise, evaluate, and provide feedback to team members to accomplish assigned tasks and team goals
  • Familiarity with operation, care, and routine maintenance of janitorial equipment
  • Knowledge of safety standards and best practices for operation of machinery, chemical use, ladder safety, and best practices for building hygiene with infants and children
  • Experience in reading, interpreting, and retaining current and past Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Able to perform the essential duties of custodial staff when needed, including during staff absences

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to perform heavy physical work, including occasionally lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 100 pounds and frequently lifting and carrying objects weighing 20-50 pounds
  • Experienced and comfortable to safely use tools, ladders, lifts, and personal protective equipment
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions, exercise sound judgment, and communicate effectively and motivate staff, vendors, and others
  • Ability to understand and follow applicable safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment, including protective eyewear, gloves, appropriate clothing and footwear, lifting equipment, and hair restraints when required
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and manufacturer instructions for cleaning and maintenance products

Environmental Conditions:

  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions
  • Work may require handling and exposure to cleaning chemicals, maintenance products, and other substances that may be harmful if not handled according to manufacturer instructions and established safety procedures. Products may include, but are not limited to, bleach, pesticides, aerosols, sprays, solvents, and cleaning and finishing solutions
