Position Summary

Serves as a senior engineering leader providing design and technical guidance across projects and disciplines (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and related mechanical systems). Represents engineering as the subject-matter expert in client and project team meetings, upholds DSI's engineering standards firmwide, and manages a small group of engineers, including their staffing, development, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

Provide design and engineering guidance across departments and disciplines, ensuring DSI engineering standards are consistently upheld

Stay current on industry trends, codes, and best practices, and share that knowledge across the engineering team

Own conceptual design direction for assigned projects and review complex preliminary redline layouts used for estimating

Perform or review advanced engineering calculations (heating/cooling loads, equipment selection and sizing, and related discipline-specific analysis) across HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and fire protection systems

Conduct site inspections to confirm compliance with construction documents and resolve design issues that arise during construction

Represent engineering as the technical subject-matter expert in project team and client meetings

Take ownership of successful achievement of project engineering goals and objectives

Manage a small team of engineers, including staffing, training, coaching, and performance management

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering required

Professional Engineer (PE) license required

12+ years of relevant engineering experience, including at least 5 years of people management experience

Expert-level knowledge of applicable systems design (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, etc.) and broader design engineering practice

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with staff, clients, and general contractors at all levels

Demonstrated ability to lead and develop an engineering team

Strong public speaking and presentation ability

Strong computer skills, including CAD/BIM tools and Microsoft Office (including Excel)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience across multiple mechanical disciplines (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection)

Design-build or mechanical contractor leadership experience

Track record of developing engineers into senior/lead roles
