The Plumbing Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the execution, supervision, and completion
of industrial plumbing and process piping construction scopes, including pipe fabrication, installation,
and system testing. This role ensures projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget while
maintaining quality and compliance with industry regulations. The Plumbing Superintendent
coordinates with project managers, subcontractors, and field personnel to optimize labor, materials,
and schedules for efficient project execution, with particular attention to mission-critical piping systems
on data center projects.
Essential Duties, Roles, Responsibilities & Procedures:
- Project Execution & Supervision: Oversee all field plumbing and piping construction activities, including pipe fabrication, installation, and system testing, to ensure alignment with project plans and schedules.
- Workforce Coordination: Manage plumbers, pipefitters, and helpers, ensuring the right personnel are assigned to appropriate tasks.
- Schedule Management: Develop and maintain plumbing and piping construction schedules, coordinating tie-ins, pressure testing, and system turnovers to ensure timely completion.
- Quality Control: Monitor pipe installation and joining methods (welding, brazing, threading, soldering) to enforce adherence to plumbing codes and company quality standards.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure all plumbing crews follow OSHA and company safety regulations, including hot work, trenching/excavation, and confined space protocols.
- Subcontractor Management: Coordinate and supervise plumbing and piping subcontractors to maintain project efficiency.
- Material & Equipment Management: Ensure timely delivery and availability of pipe, fittings, valves, backflow devices, and specialty piping materials.
- System Testing & Commissioning Support: Coordinate hydrostatic/pressure testing, flushing, and disinfection of piping systems, and support commissioning of process and utility piping systems critical to data center operations.
- Issue Resolution: Identify and resolve field issues related to pipe routing, underground utility conflicts, and trade coordination to avoid project delays.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed of local, state, and federal plumbing codes (IPC/UPC) and backflow prevention regulations to ensure compliance.
- Stakeholder Communication: Maintain regular communication with project managers, engineers, inspectors, and site personnel.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of daily construction activities, safety incidents, test results, and work progress.
- Performance Evaluation: Assess workforce efficiency and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Education & Certifications:
o High school diploma or equivalent required.
o Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
preferred.
o OSHA 30 certification required.
o Journeyman or Master Plumber license preferred; backflow prevention assembly tester
certification a plus.
o Must possess any licenses or certifications required by state or local regulations.
• Experience:
o Minimum of 7+ years of experience in industrial plumbing and piping construction.
o At least 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience on plumbing or piping
construction sites.
o Experience with mission-critical or data center piping systems (process/utility piping,
cooling distribution piping, backflow prevention, fire protection coordination) strongly
preferred.
• Technical Skills:
o Strong knowledge of plumbing and piping systems, installation methods, and applicable
plumbing codes (IPC/UPC).
o Ability to read and interpret plumbing/piping blueprints, isometric drawings, and project
specifications.
o Proficiency in construction scheduling software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, Primavera
P6).
o Familiarity with underground utilities, backflow prevention, and process piping systems
supporting critical infrastructure preferred.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
• Physical Requirements:
o Ability to stand, walk, and navigate construction sites, mechanical rooms, and
underground or utility areas for extended periods.
o Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally, including pipe sections and plumbing
materials.
o Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in trenches, crawl spaces, and
various weather conditions.
• Work Environment:
o Primarily field-based, working on active construction sites, including mechanical rooms
and underground utility areas.
o Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, high noise levels, and industrial work
environments.
o Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required on job sites.
• Travel Requirements:
o May require frequent travel between project sites and occasional overnight stays
depending on project demands.
