Cruz Associates Inc. of Yorktown, VA has an open position and is looking for qualified candidates for a Ordnance Inventory Technician-CDL Driver. The job location is at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head MD.
Scope of Performance: We are seeking a professional and safety-focused Over-the-Road (OTR) CDL Driver to support the transportation of ordnance-related materials, equipment, and associated assets to military installations, government facilities, and customer locations throughout the United States. This position requires extensive overnight travel, strict adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and the ability to safely transport sensitive government property while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and compliance. This position will be full-time technician, including overtime and some shift work, and shall be subject to Department of Transportation physical examinations and certification requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely transport ordnance-related materials, equipment, and government assets in accordance with DOT, FMCSA, and company policies.
- Conduct pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections of tractors, trailers, and cargo.
- Ensure all shipments are properly secured and transported in accordance with applicable regulations and customer requirements.
- Maintain accurate driver logs, inspection reports, shipping documents, bills of lading, and other required records.
- Verify cargo against shipping documentation and report discrepancies immediately.
- Coordinate delivery schedules with dispatch, project managers, and customer representatives.
- Maintain compliance with Hours of Service (HOS) requirements and electronic logging device (ELD) regulations.
- Perform basic vehicle inspections and coordinate maintenance or repairs as needed.
- Follow all security procedures when transporting government property and sensitive materials.
- Represent the company professionally while interacting with military personnel, government customers, and commercial partners.
- Assist with loading and unloading cargo when required.
- Respond appropriately to changing schedules, weather conditions, and transportation challenges while maintaining safe operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience – Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class A Commercial Drivers License with HAZMAT endorsement
- Minimum of three years of recent over-the-road driving experience
- Strong understanding of DOT and FMCSA regulations
- Clean driving record with the ability to meet company insurability requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
- Ability to pass Ammo-18 Certification class
- Ability to work with automated computer systems
- Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel, both military and private industry
