You will translate capability strategy into practical execution, ensuring teams have the governance, processes, and tools needed to operate effectively.
The role partners closely with global, regional, business-unit, and affiliate stakeholders to drive alignment and measurable impact.
You will lead governance forums, prioritize improvement opportunities, and establish clear performance measures against strategic roadmaps.
The position also plays a key role in integrating newly acquired ventures and managing organizational change across medical functions.
Success requires strategic thinking, strong influence, and the ability to turn complex stakeholder input into decisive action.
This is an opportunity to shape operating excellence in medical affairs while ultimately helping accelerate better outcomes for healthcare professionals and patients.
- Strategy, governance, and continuous improvement: Define and evolve the global medical capability strategy and multi-year roadmap; establish frameworks to assess implementation progress and impact; align priorities across global, regional, business-unit, and affiliate stakeholders; and lead governance forums that support prioritization, decision-making, and performance tracking.
- Capability deployment: Coordinate the global rollout of medical capabilities through capability-lead forums and communities of practice; oversee capability deep-dives, self-assessments, follow-up actions, and deployment initiatives; prioritize opportunities based on impact, feasibility, and strategic relevance; and promote best-practice sharing and learning.
- Operational and process excellence: Help teams establish and optimize core processes, identify cross-functional gaps and pain points, and coordinate initiatives that improve operating models and end-to-end capability delivery across multiple teams and geographies.
- New venture integration: Assess medical activities associated with newly acquired ventures, ensure requirements are incorporated according to development stage, and evaluate the organizational capacity needed to support integration and ongoing execution.
- Change management: Partner with capability leaders and relevant internal teams to assess the organizational impact of changes to medical capabilities and processes, then develop and execute stakeholder engagement and communication plans that support effective adoption.
- Executive stakeholder engagement: Communicate progress, insights, risks, strategic priorities, and recommended trade-offs to senior stakeholders, translating complex information into clear actions and decisions.
- Performance and impact management: Maintain visibility into capability performance and roadmap progress, identify areas requiring intervention, and ensure capability deployment and process improvements deliver measurable and sustainable impact.
- Cross-functional leadership: Lead complex initiatives where you may not be the subject-matter expert, build alignment across diverse stakeholder groups, challenge the status quo constructively, and drive strategy through to execution.
- Education and experience: Bachelor’s degree and at least 8 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry; an MBA is preferred.
- Medical affairs expertise: Experience working within medical affairs and with affiliates or geographically distributed organizations is highly valued.
- Strategic leadership: Demonstrated ability to shape strategic thinking, manage complex and ambiguous challenges, establish priorities, and convert strategic direction into practical execution.
- Capability and process excellence: Experience in capability development, impact measurement, operating-model improvement, process optimization, or related organizational effectiveness disciplines.
- Influencing and collaboration: Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, influence without direct authority, challenge established approaches, and build alignment across teams with different priorities.
- Governance and decision-making: Strong ability to facilitate governance, evaluate trade-offs based on impact and feasibility, and translate stakeholder insights into agreed actions and measurable improvements.
- Executive communication: Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate concisely and confidently with senior stakeholders and support effective prioritization and decision-making.
- Community building: Experience establishing or leading communities of practice and creating environments that encourage knowledge sharing, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Leadership style: Inclusive and positive leadership approach, with strong judgment, strategic courage, adaptability, and the ability to navigate complex roles and responsibilities collaboratively.
- Execution mindset: Demonstrated ability to move from strategy to action, maintain momentum through ambiguity, and ensure initiatives achieve tangible organizational outcomes.
- Work authorization: Candidates must be authorized to work full-time in the United States without employer sponsorship or visa support.
- Salary: Anticipated base salary range of $154,500–$226,600, depending on education, experience, skills, and geographic location.
