Position Overview

The Field Service Recovery Technician (RT) is the primary field operator for Hudson’s mobile refrigerant recovery and exchange business. The RT will be required to effectively/ efficiently recover refrigerant from mechanical equipment (HVAC and industrial cooling) at job sites and to support on-site tank exchange at customer sites. This is a role for someone who is mechanically skilled, tech-savvy, and passionate about doing meaningful, hands-on work that directly contributes to environmental protection.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Field Service Recovery & Exchange Operations:
  • Effectively and efficiently recover refrigerant from mechanical equipment at job sites, including set-up, operation, and break-down of refrigerant recovery machines and equipment (e.g. recovery cylinders, hoses, and other field tools)
  • Support the exchange of recovery cylinders at customer sites, ensuring adherence to established process and procedures
  • Support depot activities required for recovery & exchange (palletizing, shipping/ receiving support, visibility into inventory)
  • Provide timely job-progress updates to support visibility into field activities and customer service needs.
  • Complete required documentation accurately and on-time, including job details, equipment used, details for recovered refrigerant and recovery cylinders with customer sign-off.
  • Equipment & Vehicle Readiness:
  • Monitor & maintain recovery and associated equipment readiness
  • Keep the assigned vehicle clean, in good condition, and maintained according to the manufacturer’s manual.
  • Compliance, Safety, and Documentation:
  • Ensure compliance with all DOT, EPA, and OSHA regulations.
  • Follow company processes, procedures, safety standards, and daily schedules.
  • Sales and Business Support:
  • Support Sales/ Account Managers as needed to develop new recovery (and exchange) opportunities
  • Work with Sales & Management to identify build new customer relationships and maintain the existing client base, striving to meet recovery and exchange goals/ metrics.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service through daily activities, communications, and interactions that are cooperative, positive, and professional.
  • Required Education and Skills

  • EPA 608 Universal Certification
  • Min. 1 year of hands-on experience with mechanical/ HVAC systems, including refrigerant recovery
    • A high school diploma or GED
  • Valid and “clean” state driver’s license
  • Obtain/ maintain DOT Medical Card (must obtain within 2 weeks of start date)
  • Willingness to work outdoors and travel within the assigned territory
  • Capable of utilizing field devices (e.g. tablets, scanners) and software required for effective communication and documentation of work performed.
  • Experience with a proven track record in customer satisfaction
  • Preferred Skills

  • Current CDL Class B with HazMat Endorsement (or willingness to obtain within 90 days of employment)
  • Knowledge of (and experience with) larger capacity commercial & industrial HVAC & refrigeration systems
  • Powered Industrial Truck (Forklift) Certification License
  • Supervisory responsibilities (Yes or No)

    Physical demands

    • A lot of time will be spent in the truck/driving
    • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 100 lbs. regularly
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work at heights, on rooftops, and in varying weather conditions.
  • Frequent use of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Must be able to read gauges, wiring diagrams, and service documentation.
  • Exposure to noise, temperature extremes, refrigerants, and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to wear required PPE and safely operate service vehicles and equipment.
  • Work authorization/security clearance requirements
