About the Role
The MS Systems Engineer III is an onsite position located in Matawan, NJ with Ocean Computer Group, a Lockstep Technology Group company. This role serves as a senior escalation resource supporting a diverse portfolio of client environments, with responsibility for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving server, cloud, and infrastructure systems while ensuring optimal performance, security, and uptime.
What You'll Own
- Respond to escalated support requests and service incidents across server, network, cloud, and end-user environments.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues that cannot be resolved by Tier I and Tier II engineers.
- Troubleshoot and resolve advanced infrastructure issues involving Windows Server, Active Directory, virtualization, networking, storage, and cloud platforms.
- Monitor client environments, investigate alerts, and proactively address performance, security, and availability concerns.
- Perform root-cause analysis for recurring or high-impact incidents and implement long-term corrective actions.
- Design, implement, and support infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and modernization initiatives.
- Maintain and improve disaster recovery, backup, business continuity, and data protection solutions.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, standards, troubleshooting procedures, and knowledge base articles.
- Collaborate with engineering, service desk, security, and project teams to deliver exceptional client outcomes.
- Participate in after-hours maintenance windows, critical incident response, and planned infrastructure changes as needed.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across the Managed Services team.
- Pursue ongoing professional development and technical certifications to remain current with emerging technologies.
What We're Looking For
Key Technical Skills- 5+ years of systems engineering experience, preferably within an MSP environment.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and Azure.
- Experience supporting virtualization platforms such as VMware and Hyper-V.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, firewalls, VPNs, storage, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Experience troubleshooting complex server, network, cloud, and end-user issues.
- Familiarity with ConnectWise, Kaseya, IT Glue, or similar MSP tools.
- Working knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and security technologies.
- Experience with scripting and automation tools is a plus.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative team player with the ability to mentor junior engineers.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft, Azure, VMware, CompTIA, Cisco, or security certifications are preferred.
