JOB SUMMARY
Specialty Systems, Inc. has an opening for a Agile Project Lead (SCRUM Master) to join our team of technical professionals supporting Government customers and national security mission requirements. In this role, you will support Agile software development and systems engineering efforts for mission-critical defense programs by facilitating Agile execution, improving team performance, and ensuring alignment between development activities and program objectives.
The position involves working within Government-provided environments while collaborating across software development, systems engineering, cybersecurity, test, and program management teams. As a member of the Specialty Systems team, you will contribute directly to the successful delivery of secure, reliable, and mission-focused software solutions supporting defense and intelligence operations.
This position is located at our customer site location. In this position, you will work our customer’s Compressed Work Schedule which consists of working four 9-hour days (M-Th) and an 8-hour day (F) for the first week of a cycle followed by four 9-hour days (M-Th) and being off on the second Friday for the second week of a cycle. This results in a 3-day weekend every other week!
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and facilitate Scrum ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives to ensure consistent Agile execution
- Serve as a servant leader and Agile coach to promote team maturity, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Identify, escalate, and remove impediments impacting team delivery, sprint objectives, and program execution
- Partner with Product Owners and stakeholders to maintain well-defined, prioritized, and actionable product backlogs aligned with mission and program objectives
- Track and communicate Agile performance metrics including velocity, sprint goals, and burn-down trends to program leadership and stakeholders
- Ensure transparency and coordination across software development teams, engineering leadership, Government stakeholders, and external partners
- Support iterative design reviews, technical demonstrations, and status briefings with customers and program leadership
- Align Agile software development activities with DoD and Navy systems engineering lifecycle processes including requirements management, design reviews, testing, and accreditation activities
- Track and manage product development roadmaps to support program schedules, milestones, and delivery objectives
- Facilitate collaboration across program management, software engineering, systems engineering, cybersecurity, and test teams
- Identify program risks and issues and drive mitigation strategies to support successful program execution
- Support Agile adoption, scaling efforts, and continuous process improvement initiatives across teams and programs
- Maintain Agile documentation, reporting artifacts, and governance materials required for program reviews and customer reporting
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications Include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business, or related discipline preferred
- Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements
- Active Secret Clearance required or ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
- Minimum of 7 years of experience serving as a Scrum Master or supporting Agile project management activities
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), Registered Scrum Master (RSM), or equivalent certification required
- Ability to obtain certification within 3–6 months may be considered
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies including Scrum, Scrum@Scale, Kanban, and SAFe frameworks
- Extensive experience utilizing Agile collaboration and tracking tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms
- Familiarity with Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) processes and DevSecOps practices
- Ability to analyze Agile metrics and implement performance improvement strategies
- Strong communication, facilitation, organizational, and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to operate effectively in mission-critical, fast-paced environments with minimal supervision
- Experience coordinating cross-functional technical teams and stakeholder engagement activities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting Navy, NAVAIR, or DoD programs
- Experience working within secure or classified environments
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern software engineering practices
- Experience supporting multiple Agile teams or scaled Agile implementations
- Advanced Agile certifications such as:
- Scrum@Scale Practitioner (S@SP)
- Advanced Certified ScrumMaster (A-CSM)
- Certified Scrum Professional – ScrumMaster (CSP-SM)
- Professional Scrum Master II or III (PSM II/III)
- ICAgile Certified Professional in Agile Coaching (ICP-ACC)
- Experience supporting software-intensive defense or mission systems programs
