This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Finance based in Canada.
This is a senior finance leadership opportunity for an experienced professional ready to oversee financial operations across multiple international entities. You will lead a distributed finance team while establishing scalable processes, strong controls, and consistent financial standards. The role combines technical accounting expertise with strategic planning, forecasting, reporting, and business partnership. You will work closely with the CFO and senior leadership to turn financial data into meaningful business insights and sound decisions. You will also drive improvements across finance systems, workflows, and automation as the organization grows. This role is well suited to a collaborative leader who thrives in an international, fast-paced, and evolving environment.
- Lead the finance function and manage an international team, including finance leads and their direct reports across multiple countries.
- Own hiring, development, performance management, succession planning, and team structure while fostering a high-performing and accountable finance culture.
- Oversee accounting operations end to end, including accounts payable, payments, reconciliations, and month-end and year-end close across multiple countries and currencies.
- Establish and maintain standardized financial controls, including segregation of duties, approval thresholds, documented procedures, and scalable processes.
- Manage country-specific tax, payment, compliance, audit, and statutory requirements in collaboration with local advisors and internal stakeholders.
- Partner with the CFO and senior leadership on financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and analysis.
- Deliver accurate and timely financial information to leadership and, when required, the Board, providing insight and constructive challenge for commercial and strategic decisions.
- Serve as a trusted finance partner and senior escalation point for cross-border financial matters.
- Own finance systems, tools, and workflows, identifying opportunities for automation, efficiency, integration, and improved data reliability.
Requirements:
- Extensive experience in finance at Senior Manager or Director level, with ownership of financial operations, accounting, and controls.
- Proven leadership experience managing managers or finance leads and building effective distributed or international teams.
- Strong knowledge of financial, tax, and regulatory requirements in Quebec or substantial experience operating within the Quebec market.
- Demonstrated experience managing finance operations across multiple countries, currencies, legal entities, and time zones.
- Strong technical finance and accounting judgment, combined with the ability to establish standards and scale processes effectively.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to work confidently with the CFO, senior leadership, and teams across the organization.
- Experience serving as the senior finance owner for multiple legal entities, including statutory filings and local board reporting, is highly valued.
- Experience building or scaling a finance function within a growing enterprise SaaS environment, including exposure to revenue operations and pricing, is a plus.
- A professional accounting designation such as CPA or an equivalent qualification is preferred.
- Experience using AI tools to automate finance processes, improve analysis, or support financial modelling is advantageous, along with genuine curiosity about applying AI to finance.
