Position Overview

The Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Manager provides technical leadership, fleet engineering support, reliability analysis, powerplant utilization reporting and maintenance program coordination for assigned aircraft fleet and engine types. This role supports safe, compliant, and efficient maintenance operations by evaluating fleet performance, coordinating technical requirements, supporting maintenance planning, and working closely with Maintenance, Quality, Reliability, Materials, Engineering, and Operations leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical management and engineering support for assigned aircraft fleet types, including configuration control, maintenance program requirements, chronic discrepancy resolution, and fleet performance monitoring.
  • Communicate with aircraft manufacturers, field service representatives, regulatory agencies, vendors, repair stations, and other air carriers regarding technical issues, maintenance trends, reliability concerns, and fleet support requirements.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Base Managers and line station leadership to support the establishment, standardization, and technical readiness of maintenance operations for assigned aircraft fleet types.
  • Support aircraft acquisitions, induction activities, lease return requirements, records review, configuration assessment, maintenance program bridging, and technical acceptance activities as required.
  • Work closely with Continuous Improvement, Quality, Maintenance Planning, and the Director of Tech OPs to review, assess, and plan implementation of newly issued Airworthiness Directives, Service Bulletins, regulatory requirements, and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Develop and support reliability initiatives that identify chronic and repeat discrepancies, establish corrective action plans, and coordinate work order development for accomplishment during line maintenance inspections, scheduled checks, and heavy maintenance visits.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Planning, Heavy Maintenance, Reliability, Materials, and Production leadership to develop optimized work scopes that reduce aircraft downtime while maintaining regulatory compliance and technical quality.
  • Recommend minimum stocking levels for parts, materials, consumables, tooling, and ground support equipment required to support assigned fleet operations and scheduled maintenance activity.
  • Serve as a Continuing Analysis and Surveillance System Board member by providing technical input on fleet reliability, corrective action effectiveness, maintenance program performance, and regulatory compliance matters for assigned aircraft.

Required Technical Competencies

  • Strong working knowledge of FAA regulations, air carrier maintenance programs, aircraft maintenance manuals, illustrated parts catalogs, wiring diagrams, structural repair manuals, service bulletins, airworthiness directives, and technical records requirements.
  • Ability to analyze fleet performance data, reliability reports, component trends, deferred maintenance items, repeat discrepancies, and corrective action effectiveness.
  • Proficiency with maintenance tracking systems, technical documentation platforms, aircraft records systems, and standard Microsoft Office applications used for reporting, analysis, and technical communication.
Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • Valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant certificate required.
  • Must be trained, qualified, and authorized on the assigned aircraft fleet type or able to complete required qualification within the company-defined timeframe.
  • Minimum of five years of aircraft maintenance experience required; experience in air carrier operations, fleet engineering, reliability, maintenance planning, technical services, or heavy maintenance support preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret technical data, coordinate corrective actions, support regulatory compliance, and communicate effectively with internal departments, external vendors, aircraft manufacturers, and regulatory representatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Boeing 757, Boeing 767and Boeing 777 aircraft, cargo operations, heavy maintenance events, aircraft induction projects, reliability programs, or maintenance tracking systems is preferred.
  • Familiarization with RR-RB211, GE CF-6-80 and P&W 2000 engines for reliability programs, trend analysis and utilization reporting is preferred.

Work Environment and Expectations

This position operates in a professional aviation maintenance environment and may require coordination across office, hangar, line maintenance, vendor, and heavy maintenance settings. The role will require occasional travel, schedule flexibility, and availability to support operational requirements, aircraft-on-ground events, technical escalations, and time-sensitive maintenance activity.
