Principal Experience User Researcher, AI Platform

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal Experience User Researcher, AI Platform based in Canada.

This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of AI-powered product experiences by uncovering customer needs, behaviors, and opportunities at scale.
You will influence the evolution of intelligent platforms and AI-driven workflows used across complex products and ecosystems.
Working alongside product, design, engineering, and data science teams, you will transform research insights into strategic decisions.
The position requires a balance of strategic thinking, hands-on research expertise, and the ability to navigate ambiguity in emerging AI spaces.
You will help define how users interact with AI experiences by evaluating usability, trust, adoption, and customer value.
As a senior research leader, you will also mentor peers, advance research practices, and contribute to a culture of innovation and excellence.

Accountabilities:

The Principal Experience User Researcher will drive research initiatives that influence product strategy, AI adoption, and customer experience across a broad technology ecosystem. This role requires strong collaboration skills, strategic vision, and the ability to translate complex user insights into actionable recommendations.

  • Develop and execute research strategies that balance customer needs, business priorities, and AI product objectives.
  • Become a subject matter expert on customer experiences, behaviors, and trends impacting AI adoption.
  • Identify areas of uncertainty and prioritize research efforts to reduce product development risks.
  • Conduct mixed-method research programs, including discovery studies, concept evaluations, usability testing, surveys, and measurement initiatives.
  • Evaluate AI-powered experiences based on usability, trust, effectiveness, customer value, and behavioral impact.
  • Translate research findings into recommendations that influence product roadmaps, investment decisions, and platform evolution.
  • Collaborate with product, design, engineering, marketing, and data science teams to ensure research insights drive meaningful outcomes.
  • Build connections across teams to align research approaches, identify trends, and maximize the impact of findings.
  • Mentor other researchers and contribute to improving research methodologies, standards, and best practices.
  • Champion user-centered approaches when developing emerging AI experiences and intelligent workflows.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced user research professional with a strong background in strategic research, AI-powered products, and large-scale digital experiences. They should combine analytical expertise, communication skills, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.

  • 8+ years of professional experience in user research, customer experience research, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience using research insights to influence product decisions, user experience improvements, and business outcomes.
  • Strong expertise in user research methodologies, including usability studies, field research, survey analysis, heuristic evaluations, participatory design, and focus groups.
  • Experience contributing research within agile product development or platform environments.
  • Experience researching AI-powered products, assistants, copilots, search systems, recommendation systems, or other intelligent experiences.
  • Strong understanding of generative AI and how it impacts customer expectations, workflows, and product design.
  • Ability to define and scale research strategies in fast-moving and ambiguous product environments.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior leaders and cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent storytelling abilities, with the capacity to communicate insights visually and verbally.
  • Advanced English proficiency with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Master’s degree (MS/MFA or equivalent) in Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Engineering, Psychology, Product Design, or a related field.
  • Strong curiosity, adaptability, and willingness to continuously learn about new technologies, markets, and user behaviors.

  • Competitive compensation package with a base salary range expected between CAD $112,000 and CAD $163,900, depending on experience and location.
