Job Description

Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, the Student Conduct Investigator is responsible for investigating allegations of individual student and student organization misconduct related to the Alabama A&M University Code of Student Conduct. Responsibilities include investigating allegations of misconduct, preparing comprehensive and unbiased reports regarding the findings of the investigation, and presenting at University Conduct Board hearings.

The Investigator works closely and collaboratively with the Investigators in the Department of Public Safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for conducting investigations related to alleged student conduct violations as outlined in the Code of Student Conduct including allegations related to individual students and student organizations
  • Collaborate with Student Title IX, Student Activities and Leadership Development, Recreation Services, Department of Public Safety and other campus offices to investigate possible student organizational violations.
  • Responsible for compiling comprehensive, detailed and unbiased investigative reports and writing comprehensive memorandums regarding the findings of the investigation
    to provide to the designated case manager.
  • Assist with the coordination and enforcement of No Contact Orders
  • Facilitate educational workshops/trainings for campus partners and members of the campus community regarding Community Standards.
  • Create monthly reports.
  • Perform Other Duties as Assigned.

Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):
  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice; Education; Educational Leadership and Policy Studies; Psychology; Social Work; or any related higher education field.
  • At least 2-3 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified or closely related work in a higher education setting.
  • Knowledge of student conduct, residential conduct, Title IX/sexual misconduct, Clery Act, VAWA, Campus SaVE and other federal regulations.
  • Knowledge of issues and challenges facing undergraduate and graduate students living on- and off-campus.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented; able to analyze problems and make well-reasoned, sound decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate and understand the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and computer fundamentals.
  • Must have the ability to work on an "on call" schedule and work overnight and/or weekends.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
  • Responding to and investigating complaints;
  • Writing case reports and/or investigation reports;
  • University policies and procedures for dealing with at-risk students and conduct cases;
  • FERPA and applicable laws and regulations;
  • Best practices in student conduct and retention;
  • Services provided by various community-based organizations;
  • Training methods.
Skills in:
  • Problem-solving, mediation, and conflict resolution techniques;
  • Operation of a computer and various supporting software packages;
  • Gathering data and assessing outcomes;
  • Assisting students in crisis;
  • Working with diverse academic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.
Ability to:
  • Coordinate with other offices to accomplish goals
  • Effectively communicate in oral and written form;
  • Maintain privacy and conduct sensitive investigations;
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks;
  • Analyze and solve problems/conflict in collaboration with colleagues;
  • Develop and implement trainings;
  • Teach college success strategies;
  • Work independently.
