About This Position
G&Z Transport is currently looking for temporary help in our Eaton yard. Job would start immediately and go as long as Mid July.
Position Summary
The Gate Guard / Yard Personnel is responsible for maintaining safe, secure, and efficient yard and plant operations. This role supports material coordination, inventory tracking, traffic flow management, equipment monitoring, safety compliance, yard cleanliness, documentation accuracy, and periodic yard inspections.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring operational flow, safety compliance, and professional representation of G&Z Transport, LLC.
Requirements:Key Duties & Responsibilities
Gate & Yard Operations
• Open and secure gates at designated times.
• Monitor and control yard access and traffic flow.
• Enforce parking policies for drivers, supervisors, visitors, and staff.
• Assist drivers and mechanics as a spotter when backing vehicles.
• Conduct inbound and outbound trailer/truck inspections.
• Perform basic post-trip inspections.
• Track and monitor trailers and inventory to ensure materials are in assigned spaces.
• Coordinate material coming in and going out of the plant to ensure proper inventory tracking.
• Conduct periodic yard checks to monitor safety, traffic flow, equipment placement, trailer positioning, and cleanliness.
• Identify and address safety hazards or operational concerns.
• Report discrepancies, unsafe conditions, or equipment issues to management prompt
Equipment & Maintenance Support
• Operate loader and forklift equipment safely and efficiently.
• Conduct pre-operation and post-operation inspections.
• Complete forklift/loader inspection sheets daily.
• Follow all safety protocols while operating heavy equipment.
• Assist with minor mechanical issues that can be remedied in the field.
• Communicate equipment concerns to dispatch and fleet teams.
• Red-tag unsafe equipment and report maintenance issues.
• Identify yard and equipment support needs and communicate appropriately.
Safety & Incident Reporting
• Assist the Safety Department with incident reporting and cleanup.
• Follow all yard and plant safety procedures.
• Support traffic control and safe vehicle movement.
• Maintain compliance with company policies and safety standards.
Reporting & Documentation
• Submit detailed shift change emails including operational updates.
• Complete yard count reports accurately and on time.
• Report logistical issues to the Plant Lead.
• Ensure all required documentation is complete and submitted timely.
Yard & Facility Maintenance
• Shovel, sweep, pick up trash, paint, and perform general cleanup.
• Maintain office/shack cleanliness (day shift).
• Maintain fuel island and fluid area cleanliness (night shift if applicable).
• Empty yard trash cans.
• Fill windshield wash buckets.
• Ensure organized equipment placement.
• Maintain overall yard cleanliness and organization.
Physical Requirements
• Work in varied outdoor environments and weather conditions.
• Stand, sit, and operate equipment for up to 12 hours per day.
• Frequently bend, stoop, and reach around equipment.
• Climb into and around mobile and plant equipment as needed.
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds.
• Safely operate loaders, forklifts, and other yard equipment.
• Walk, climb stairs, and ladders as required.
General Requirements
• Valid Driver’s License with clean MVR required.
• Class A CDL preferred but not required.
• Ability to work day or night shifts, including rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Familiarity with loadouts preferred but not required.
• Basic Microsoft 365 knowledge preferred.
• Excellent communication and listening skills.
• Ability to effectively present information verbally and/or in writing.
Work Environment
This position involves regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions and plant environments. Employees must be prepared to assist drivers and perform duties in inclement weather. Work locations may vary and can include different operational areas as needed.
The hours would be Sunday thru Tuesday 5 A.M. to 5 P.M and Wednesday 5 A.M. to 11 A.M.
