Position Summary:

Working under the close supervision of the Wellness Director / Registered Nurse, caregiver/medication technician will be accountable for providing direct care to the residents of the Assisted Living Facility (ALF). By performing the duties and responsibilities as expected, the Caregiver/Medication Technician will promote resident dignity, privacy, choice, and independence in the resident’s home, while carrying out the “aging in place” philosophy.

CARE GIVER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living, such as dressing, bathing, personal hygiene, toileting, and attend changes as needed.
  • Assist residents with or provide transportation to and from meals.
  • Monitor vitals as assigned.
  • Maintain open communications with other shifts so that relevant resident information is shared. Communicates changes and concerns to nurse, Wellness Director or Wellness coordinator.
  • Assist dietary staff with serving coffee, hot water, or beverages during mealtime as needed, bussing table after meals as needed, picking up dishes and trays in for in room dining as needed.
  • Assist residents with washing and folding personal laundry.
  • Make resident beds and change linens according to care plan and as needed
  • Emptying trash in resident apartments daily and assisting with picking up clutter or spills in resident rooms as needed.
  • Chart care provided timely, accurately and appropriately.
  • Complete any treatments as ordered by physician within the scope of practice.
  • Stock necessary supplies to maintain nursing station
  • Maintain and clean work environment including emptying trash, wiping down counters, cleaning up after self.

CERTIFIED MEDICATION TECHNITIAN ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

In additions to the above caregiver essential functions, also performs certified medication technician specific tasks.

  • Follow the 5 rights of medication administration: right resident (verify name ), right medication, right dose, right time, right route (verify MAR and card every time med is given).
  • Presents medication to resident and observes ingestion or other application or administers medication using specified processes.
  • Takes vital signs as directed for specific medications.
  • Observes resident to monitor response to specified types of medications, reports unexpected reactions to nurse or Wellness Director in timely manner.
  • Documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered.
  • Functions as shift lead; supervises care givers, communicates with families, pharmacy, receives staff call ins and follows up appropriately.
  • May receive ordered medications for administration to resident.
  • May record and restock medication inventories.
  • Responding to resident falls and other incidents, directing care within scope of practice, communicating with nurse, completing incident report and communicating incident with family.
  • Stock cart and nurse’s station with necessary supplies.
  • Maintains medication cart: remove expired medications, DC medications, medications of residents discharged from facility, sanitize cart between shifts.
  • Other duties as assigned appropriate to the position(s).
  • Any other duties as assigned by supervisor appropriate to position(s).
  • Ensures punctuality and regular attendance for assigned shifts.
  • Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the Company’s Code of Business Conduct, its policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, and applicable professional standards.

Note: All employees of Olympus Retirement Living are required to submit and be cleared to work in the facility per each state’s specific background check requirements prior to contact with patients/residents.

Requirements:

Education:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age. (Caregiver)
  • High School Diploma and/or equivalent

Licenses/Certification:

  • Successful completion of training approved by the state for Certified Medication Assistants (Medication Technician).
  • Certification in the state of Idaho as a Certified Nursing Assistant. (Certified Medication Technician)
  • Valid certification as a CNA in the state of employment.
  • Valid CPR certificate preferred.

Experience:

  • Six months experience in a healthcare environment preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to react decisively and quickly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their family members, and facility staff.
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and patience.
  • Ability to maintain resident confidentiality.

NOTE: A CNA who successfully completes an approved advanced skills training curriculum and/or has demonstrated experience in a needed clinical specialty area, e.g. ventilator, pulmonary, and tracheostomy (VPT), can be classified as a CNA II.
