About This Position

SUMMARY:

The Public Safety Command Center (PSCC) Officer is responsible for the routine operation of the Public Safety Command Center. This role handles both routine and emergency calls for service; coordinates responses from internal MCCA departments and external public safety partners (police, fire, EMS, etc.); documents actions taken; and maintains required logs and reports. The Officer operates a range of systems including CCTV platforms, fire alarm monitoring, access control systems, and dispatch communications equipment. The position requires professionalism, confidentiality, and the ability to work effectively within a diverse environment. Maintains the confidentiality of the MCCA and the MCCA’s Public Safety Department operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The Senior Public Safety Manager – Command Center Operations or Assistant Public Safety Manager- Command Center Operations may assign additional duties as needed. Building Access

  • Monitor and document credentials of individuals requesting facility access; issue temporary identification when required
  • Operating facility systems include remote door controls, elevators, escalators, fire control systems, and parking controls
  • Prevent unauthorized entry to MCCA facilities
  • Operate and monitor access control call boxes
  • Manage alarm scheduling and deactivation

Dispatch

  • Evaluate incoming calls to determine the required level of assistance
  • Transmit messages and information according to established procedures
  • Operate radios, telephones, computers, and other specialized communications equipment
  • Coordinate facility responses to emergencies such as evacuations, bomb threats, hazardous materials incidents, natural disasters, terrorism activity, and medical emergencies
  • Operate MCCA’s Mass Emergency Notification System
  • Coordinate response from external emergency providers (police, fire, EMS)
  • Assist callers with general inquiries (event information, parking, directions, etc.)
  • Distribute and broadcast operational and event-related information
  • Record found property in the lost & found management system

Safety/Security

  • Monitor intrusion and fire alarm systems and review CCTV for unusual or suspicious activity
  • File incident reports and assign reports to other personnel when appropriate
  • Inspect PSCC equipment regularly and report deficiencies
  • Document all calls and actions taken within the incident records management system
  • Maintain maintenance logs for building equipment such as doors, elevators, and escalators
  • Conduct public safety equipment inventories

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Direct supervision is provided by the Senior Public Safety Manager – Command Center Operations and Assistant Public Safety Manager-Command Center Operations, including training, duty assignments, performance evaluation, and coaching.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Word, Outlook, and Teams)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage professionally with internal stakeholders and external visitors
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to manage competing priorities, and composure under pressure; ability to engage professionally with internal stakeholders, external visitors, and emergency service partners
  • A team player with a commitment to the MCCA’s mission

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An associate’s degree in a related field; 3 years of public safety related operations experience may substitute for the degree
  • A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in public safety, police dispatch, security central station operations, or a related role
  • Familiarity with electronic surveillance equipment, relational database management systems, fire suppression and detection systems, intrusion alarm systems, access control systems
  • CPR and First Aid certified

WORK SCHEDULE: This is a full-time role. The work schedule of this position is a non-traditional work schedule with the understanding that schedules may vary based on operational needs. This may include occasional early mornings, late evenings, or weekends as business needs require.

All positions within the MCCA are designated as on-site roles. As such, this position requires in-person attendance five days per week. Remote or hybrid work arrangements are not part of MCCA's operational model.


DRESS CODE: Employees will be supplied with and required to wear uniforms as determined by the MCCA. Employees are expected to project dignity and decorum appropriate for public-facing leadership roles through professional dress and grooming.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to sit for extended periods while monitoring screens; operate computers, phones, headsets, and radios; and hear and process information in a high-noise environment. Fine motor skills for accurate typing and navigation of multiple simultaneous systems are required. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Candidates who have received a conditional offer of employment must satisfactorily pass a pre-employment screening for controlled substances and alcohol, criminal records review, background and reference check, and pre-employment physical. Employees will be subject to random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident-controlled substances and alcohol testing, and periodic review of criminal records as determined by MCCA.
