About This Position

SUMMARY:

The Quality Assurance (QA) Supervisor reports to the Site Quality Assurance Manager and plays a key role in ensuring the production of safe, high-quality products in a sanitary environment. This is accomplished through active education, coaching, and development of staff and plant personnel on second and third shifts. It is essential for the QA Supervisor to be recognized as a leader and problem solver within the facility. A strong understanding of the products and customer expectations is required. Additionally, this role collaborates closely with Production, Maintenance, and Supply Chain leadership and staff to foster a positive and productive workplace culture.

The Quality Supervisor position is structured to provide continuous Quality Leadership, with work hours staggered to extend oversight after the Site Quality Assurance Manager's shift. Work hours and days will be adjusted as needed to support both in-season and year-round operations. A strong floor presence is essential, ensuring operators and plant personnel can engage with the Quality Supervisor for collaboration, guidance, and direct involvement in Food Quality and Safety. As a key member of leadership, the Quality Supervisor is responsible for supporting off-shift operations by optimizing product analytics, overseeing dispositions, and managing communication with Morning Star during in-season production to enhance business efficiency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Quality Oversight & Compliance

  • Conduct regular walkthroughs to identify and address food safety, sanitation, quality, and efficiency issues, ensuring audit readiness.
  • Report all food safety, quality, and sanitation concerns to the Quality Manager.
  • Document and manage Food Safety Quality Incident (FSQI) reports and initiate Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations.
  • Log and tag nonconforming materials, maintain accurate Hold Logs, and coordinate product dispositions with the Quality Manager.
  • Oversee repacking and reprocessing of nonconforming materials, ensuring accurate ERP system inventory adjustments.
  • Ensure compliance with company quality programs, food safety procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Oversee and document all required inspections for off-shift operations.
  • Leadership & Team Development

    • Supervise and develop Quality Technicians, including onboarding, performance reviews, and staffing management.
    • Provide ongoing training on quality policies, procedures, and programs.
    • Foster a culture of accuracy, efficiency, and clear communication within the Quality team.
    • Act as a backup for the Site Quality Manager in meetings and leadership responsibilities.

    Production & Operational Support

  • Manage pest control services, reviewing reports and addressing issues.
  • Support Production in managing chemical sanitation suppliers and coordinating with sales representatives.
  • Assist in off-shift communication with Morning Star to enhance operational efficiency and quality.
  • Optimize product analytics to ensure specifications are met cost-effectively.
  • Make informed business decisions regarding product dispositions during off-shift hours.
  • Oversee sanitation programs, including weekly/monthly sanitation and CIP (Clean-In-Place) procedures.
  • Product Commercialization & Documentation

  • Support new product commercialization by ensuring specification adherence, monitoring line efficiency, and collecting samples for testing.
  • Generate and review production folders and paste assignments.
  • Conduct positive release reviews per PTK’s program, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Oversee laboratory equipment maintenance, calibration, and micro program compliance.
  • Prepare and send samples for third-party testing.
  • Order laboratory and office supplies as needed.
  • Audits, SOPs, & Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct internal audits and support the Quality Manager during external audits.
  • Review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
  • Develop training materials to ensure the most accurate procedures are followed.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or relative experience in quality or laboratory management
  • 3 years of experience in a Lead or Supervisory role, within the food or dietary supplement industry
  • Demonstrate strong competency skills (listed below).
  • HACCP Trained/Certified
  • PCQI Certified
  • Strong reasoning, perception, active listening, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated management, supervision, coaching, and team building skills
  • Working knowledge of food safety and quality
  • Internal Auditor Training
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficient in MS office and demonstrated mathematical skills
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    • Ability to smell and taste products and view for consistency.
    • Ability to physically inspect food facilities (capable of climbing, kneeling, walking, bending as necessary to complete).
    • Ability to perform repetitious work.
    • Occasional pushing/pulling and lifting/carrying 50 pounds or less.
    • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
    • Ability to work upwards of 12 hours per day.
    • Availability of working off shifts and flex shifts as needed.
    • Weekends as needed, primarily during Tomato Harvest season (July–September)
