About This Position

Position Description:

We are seeking an energetic technician to join our incredible team. The technician will be responsible for rooming patients, performing initial exams and testing as assigned, and be willing to assist anywhere else in the clinic as assigned to help the clinic run smoothly. We are looking for a technician with 1-3 years of experience but we are willing to train an interested and hardworking individual that would like to develop these skill sets. The qualified technician will be responsible for rooming patients. After rooming patients they are responsible for obtaining a thorough medical history and family history. They will then perform all preliminary evaluations including visual acuity testing, manifest refractions, intra-ocular pressure testing and any other preliminary exams or tests assigned by their doctor or clinical manager. The ophthalmic tech will also be responsible for helping answer patient questions over the phone and triaging them correctly as well as being willing to perform any other tasks needed throughout the clinic to ensure a smooth clinic flow.

Position Responsibilities:

- greeting patients

- explains purpose of exam and what to expect

- obtains a detailed history (medical and family) as well as a chief complaint

- performs appropriate testing as needed according to office policies and procedures as well as doctors instructions

- assists back office to insure good patient flow

- does contact lens fitting and training

- does patient education in clinic and over the phone

- ensures appropriate documentation in patients electronic health record

- attends required staff and educational meetings

- maintains strict confidentiality

- provides assistance in all other areas of the office when completion of regular responsibilities permits to help ensure a smooth flowing practice

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Desired skills / knowledge -

- ability to communicate effectively with patients verbally, by phone, and in writing

- ability to work with an electronic health record

- able to obtain an accurate visual acuity

- needs to be able to refract

- ability to check pressure by applanation and with a tonopen or other devices provided in the clinic

- willingness to learn or ability to perform other testing such as visual fields, topographies, etc.

- retinoscopy is a plus

- willingness to work with all ages of patients from newborns to elderly as well as special needs

- willingness to perform other tasks throughout the clinic as required to help it flow smoothly

Physical Requirements:

- able to sit or stand for long periods of time

- able to lift up to 50 lbs.
