About This Position
Job Function:
This is an active working position that includes the supervision of subordinates in the right of way maintenance and storm water maintenance divisions. This person performs and supervises all types of manual labor related to right of way maintenance and stormwater maintenance. Work is performed under the general direction of the Public Works Manager.

Essential Duties:
- Plans, schedules, coordinates and directs the activities of work crews in maintaining the City right of ways and stormwater retention areas.
- Estimates costs and obtains the type of tools and materials needed to complete various projects.
- Supervises trains and instructs crews in the performance of their duties.
- Performs related duties as required and other such work that may be assigned.
- Responsible for the cleaning of vehicles, equipment, and reporting areas.
- Driving of City Vehicles (A valid Florida Driver’s License is required)
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow all City safety rules, policies, practices and procedures and use all safety equipment.
- Ability to perform manual labor connected with duties.
- Responsible for inspection and utilization of all equipment and apparel in accordance with standard operating procedures within the division, and ensure that subordinates are informed of and practice all safety rules and regulations.
- Must work safely in congested traffic areas with potentially dangerous equipment.
- Ability to maintain good relations with the public.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be a High School graduate or have a GED equivalency.
- Three years experience as a supervisor/manager or some capacity preferred.
- A combination of training and experience may qualify an applicant for consideration.
- Chemical application license (herbicide/insecticide) a plus.
- Must obtain FDEP Stormwater Inspectors License within 1 year
- Must obtain Stormwater Operator Level 1 within 1 year
- Must obtain Class B CDL with tanker endorsement within 1 Year.
- Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
- Complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within six (6) months of completion of probationary period.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.
- Acceptable eyesight (with or without corrections) Visual acuity is required as a machine operator and/or mobile equipment operator.
- Acceptable hearing (with or with hearing aid).
- Physical ability for sitting, climbing, working form heights, standing, walking, pulling, heavy lifting, using fingers, grasping and strenuous physical work.
- Ability to physically lift 80 lbs.
- Must be able to operate city-owned vehicles, tractors, lawn mowers, chainsaws, blowers, edgers, and large and small trucks.
Environmental Conditions:
- Works primarily in the outdoor environment and is subject to sun, heat, humidity, rain, cold,
- and inclement weather
- Works during daytime and nighttime hours.
