VES is seeking a Ship Systems Safey Engineer to join an exciting team working at the Washington Navy Yard supporting Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Chief Engineers (CHENG) Principal for Safety (PFS). This position involves impactful work with a great team. This opportunity is ideal for a detail-oriented, and articulate individual with the ability to work collaboratively in support of the PFS. In this position, the candidate will conduct safety reviews, review system safety plans, and audit program level PFS’s qualification packages. The ideal candidate brings a wealth of ship system safety knowledge. The candidate should have experience with NAVSEA Operations as well as experience as a Department of Defense PFS. The ideal candidate has significant experience in providing guidance and training in system safety engineering policy, methods, and standard practices.
Work location is on site at the Washington Navy Yard, with potential for light telework.Travel: Infrequent local travel
Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other related field
• 10 years of ship system safety experience
• Experience in the development of system safety engineering policies, directions, procedures, and guidance
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Excellent problem solving abilities
• Clearance: SECRET

Desired Experience

• Experience with the Navy’s Electronic Hazard Assessment Report (eHAR) database
• Knowledge of NAVSEA Operations
• Familiarity with managing INSURV
