POSITION STANDARDS
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, current New Hampshire license
- Associate Degree (ADN) prepared nurses with 2+ years’ experience
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) with 2+ years of experience preferred
- Current Basic Life Support certification (BLSC) required upon hire
- 2+ years as an RN
- IV experience required
- Active participant in in-services, educational programs, and educational conferences. Exhibits membership in organizations relevant to professional growth
- The Infusion Services Unit Registered Professional Nurse cares for young adult through geriatric patients.

PART TWO: FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY

Position Objective
- The Registered Professional Nurses is accountable to meet the complete nursing needs of a defined group of patients utilizing the nursing process and the medical plan of care in accordance with the New Hampshire Nurse Practice Act and the Patient Bill of Rights.

Performance Expectation
- Demonstrates competency to insert, remove, and provide care and maintenance of IV lines
- Demonstrates competency in monitoring of IV therapies
- Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition
- Follows the seven medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors
- Performs patient care using an integrated approach that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors
- Ability to formulate an individual plan of care, revise plan as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan for effectiveness
- Communicates clinical information appropriately to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs. Collaborates with all ancillary departments
- Coordinates and supervises patient care, as necessary
- Demonstrates an ability to organize and prioritize job function
- Demonstrates critical thinking skills, using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
- Utilizes assessment data to identify patient care needs, to include patient education and discharge planning
- Recognizes and reports abnormal assessment data and incorporates findings into the plan of care: validates and revises expected outcomes based on assessment
- Accurately and legibly documents all patient care activities, including but not limited to, patient care teaching, medication administration, nursing flow sheets and all assessment forms
- Delegates tasks to the health care team members appropriately
- Demonstrates unit specific competencies.
