About This Position
About the Role:
As a Bus Driver, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and timely transportation of passengers across designated routes within the United States. Your primary objective is to operate commercial buses in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including DOT standards, while providing excellent customer service. You will be responsible for navigating routes efficiently by reading maps and following dispatch instructions, ensuring passengers reach their destinations safely and on schedule. This role demands vigilance in vehicle operation, including the use of brakes and maneuvering through various terrains and traffic conditions, while also assisting passengers with boarding and disembarking, including climbing stairs when necessary. Ultimately, your work will contribute to the reliability and safety of public or private transportation services, often requiring flexibility to work overtime as needed to meet service demands.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A with a clean driving record.
- Demonstrated ability to read maps and follow dispatch instructions accurately.
- Knowledge of and compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
- Physical capability to lift and carry heavy weights and climb stairs as required.
- Proven ability to operate bus brakes and other vehicle controls safely.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a bus driver or in a similar commercial driving role.
- Familiarity with local routes and traffic patterns within the assigned service area.
- Customer service experience, particularly in transportation or public service settings.
- Certification in first aid or emergency response.
- Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Responsibilities:
- Operate commercial buses safely and efficiently along assigned routes, adhering to all traffic laws and DOT regulations.
- Read and interpret maps and dispatch instructions to navigate routes accurately and adjust to any changes or detours.
- Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, including helping those who may require additional support.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure the bus is in safe operating condition.
- Maintain clear communication with dispatch and report any incidents, delays, or mechanical issues promptly.
- Manage passenger safety and comfort throughout the journey, addressing any concerns or emergencies professionally.
- Handle physical tasks such as lifting and carrying heavy items when necessary, and climbing stairs to access bus compartments or assist passengers.
- Work flexible hours, including overtime, to meet scheduling needs and ensure continuous service.
