About This Position

JOB DESCRIPTION

Ascension DePaul Services of New Orleans (DCSNO) affiliates with DCHC which manages multiple Federally Qualified Health Center locations in the Greater New Orleans area. DCSNO is committed to improving the health status of communities and continues a long tradition of health ministry. DCSNO is seeking a full-time Senior Accountant.

The Senior Accountant holds a key role in ensuring the monthly general ledger close occurs timely and accurately. This position will support the Controller by performing complex general ledger and bank account reconciliations, verifying cash batches, investigating variances, monthly and weekly reporting, payroll, A/P, and cash management and will have a key role in ensuring accurate and timely preparation and review of the financial statements.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to general ledger.
  • Prepare month-end journal entries, forecasts, reports, variance analyses, etc.
  • Perform general account analysis and complex reconciliations, including bank statements, fixed assets, employer’s benefit costs, accruals, and prepaid expenses.
  • Research and resolve outstanding items on general ledger reconciliation.
  • Prepare and submit payroll to payroll vendor and process associated JE’s.
  • Prepare disbursements and process payables.
  • Prepare 1099s
  • Monitor Escheatment
  • Prepare and perform monthly closing journal entries for different service lines
  • Perform other accounting and clerical functions to support supervisor
  • Work constructively with other departments to resolve issues and problems
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills required
  • Assist and participate in process improvement plan to improve the efficiency and functionality of the finance department
  • Assist and prepare schedules and requests for the annual financial audits
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task and prioritize work independently
  • Must have the ability to work effectively independently, as well as in a team environment
  • Must have strong computer skills, including expert proficiency in Excel and other MS Office


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Lifting, twisting, standing, bending and some activities involved in the job. 90% of work will require sitting at a computer for long periods of time. Employee may be required to travel to other locations as needed and must be willing to work various shifts to accommodate needs of various sites.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the individual is regularly exposed to a moderate noise level due to office equipment and co-workers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Three years of experience in Accounting
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Must be able to maintain the highest level of confidentiality
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • CPA preferred
  • Public Accounting Experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in healthcare industry
