About the Role:

The Assistant Teacher plays a vital role in supporting lead teachers to create a positive and effective learning environment for students. This position involves assisting with lesson preparation, classroom management, and providing individualized attention to students to enhance their educational experience. The Assistant Teacher collaborates closely with the teaching team to implement curriculum plans and adapt instructional materials to meet diverse student needs. Additionally, the role requires monitoring student progress and behavior, ensuring a safe and inclusive classroom atmosphere. Ultimately, the Assistant Teacher contributes significantly to fostering student development and academic success within the educational setting.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to work a regular 40 hour work week in a class of 14 two-year-old children.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting.
  • Basic understanding of classroom management techniques.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively within a team.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Montessori experience and training.
  • Previous experience as a teacher assistant or in a similar educational support role.
  • KDHE health and safety training.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Proficiency with educational technology and classroom software.

Responsibilities:

  • Support lead teachers in preparing and organizing the classroom environment and materials.
  • Assist in managing classroom behavior and maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students requiring additional help.
  • Monitor and document student progress and communicate observations to the lead teacher.
  • Help supervise students during classroom transitions, recess, and other school activities.
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to maintain regular routines and uphold all regulations.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and parent-teacher conferences as needed.

The Assistant Teacher utilizes strong communication skills daily to effectively interact with students, teachers, and parents, ensuring clear and supportive exchanges. Organizational skills are essential for preparing materials and managing classroom activities efficiently. Patience and adaptability are critical when addressing diverse student needs and responding to dynamic classroom situations. Collaboration skills enable the Assistant Teacher to work seamlessly with lead teachers and staff to implement educational plans and maintain a cohesive learning environment. Additionally, observational skills are employed to monitor student behavior and progress, providing valuable feedback that supports student development.
