The EH&S Specialist -2nd shift supports the Cartamundi East Longmeadow manufacturing facility by ensuring safe operations, strong environmental compliance, and effective off-shift hazard control. This role has a strong focus on environmental program management, including ISO 14001 support, routine inspections, training, continuous improvement, cost-reduction initiatives, and real-time safety guidance. The EH&S Specialist will also support OSHA VPP initiatives and reinforces a proactive EH&S culture across all off-shift operations.


What you’ll do as an EH&S Specialist:

Environmental Compliance & ISO 14001 Program Support – 40%
Conduct daily environmental inspections (hazardous waste areas, chemical storage, wastewater systems, universal waste, spill prevention equipment).Maintain or assist in maintaining required environmental documentation to support compliance with RCRA, EPCRA, SPCC, stormwater, air permits, and other regulatory requirements.Support and help manage the facility’s ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, including internal audits, document control, corrective actions, and maintaining conformance with standard requirements.Assist with hazardous waste accumulation, labeling, shipment preparation, and waste vendor coordination.Support environmental incident response, containment, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.Participate in sustainability initiatives, resource‑reduction programs, and environmental performance improvement projects.
Safety & Health Support – 25%
Perform routine safety inspections (PPE use, housekeeping, machine guarding, LOTO adherence, pedestrian safety, equipment condition).Respond to off‑shift safety incidents and assist with initial investigations and documentation.Track corrective actions and ensure timely closeout.Verify the functionality of safety systems (eyewashes, fire extinguishers, AEDs, alarms, emergency equipment).Support the EH&S team in maintaining accurate and up‑to‑date safety records.
Training & Employee Engagement – 20%
Conduct or support off‑shift EH&S training, including HazCom, PPE, spill response, environmental procedures, LOTO refreshers, and emergency response.Coach employees and supervisors on safe work practices and environmental expectations.Reinforce site policies, standard operating procedures, and EH&S performance expectations through onsite engagement and walk‑throughs.
OSHA VPP & Continuous Improvement – 10%
Support the site’s OSHA VPP initiatives by engaging employees in VPP elements and subcommittees.Support employee involvement activities and verify off‑shift compliance with hazard prevention and control standards.Participate in internal audits and preparation for VPP evaluations.Identify and support continuous improvement initiatives across environmental, safety, and health programs.Support cost‑reduction opportunities related to waste handling, recycling, training efficiency, energy use, and improved process controls.
Reporting & Documentation – 5%
Prepare and submit internal EH&S reports, including inspection findings, near‑miss summaries, waste tracking logs, training attendance, and incident support documentation.Maintain accurate records within the site’s EH&S management systems.Provide off‑shift trend insights and recommend mitigation actions.

We’re looking for a EH&S Specialist with:

Associate degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related discipline required; bachelor’s degree preferred.2–5 years of experience in manufacturing with direct exposure to EH&S programs.Experience with environmental compliance and/or ISO 14001 strongly preferred.Experience conducting training and safety coaching.Experience with OSHA VPP, ISO 14001, or similar management systems is a plus.Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 standards.Understanding of environmental regulations (EPA, RCRA, EPCRA, SPCC).Ability to conduct audits, lead inspections, and document findings.Strong communication, coaching, and problem‑solving skills.Ability to work independently during off‑shift operations.Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EH&S data systems.
