Description:

Academic Advising Assistant - FWS

Report to - Assistant Director of Academic Advising

Department - Center for Student Success

FLSA Status - Hourly, Non-Exempt

Max Hours Per Week 15

JOB PURPOSE

To assist the academic advising team in its efforts to encourage the retention and persistence of students through their respective degree programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manage the advising events and communication plan calendars
  • Send and manage responses to mass communications (Emails and Texts) related to student advising
  • Assist in the execution of advising events on campus and online
  • Use Campus Connections to manage student data, case information, and communication records
  • Create and maintain monthly student contact reports for the Director of Advising and Student Success
  • Manage outgoing mail by printing labels, packing envelopes, etc.
  • Assist with administrative tasks related to MBTS and Spurgeon College Career Services
  • Be familiar with all the areas of the Spurgeon College/MBTS website that provide important student information
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

MUST BE A CURRENT STUDENT OF MBTS OR SPURGEON COLLEGE, AND

MUST QUALIFY FOR THE FEDERAL WORK STUDY PROGRAM VIA FAFSA

Qualifications and requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Christian with high integrity, currently pursuing a relationship with God
  • High School Diploma Required (Some college experience preferred)
  • Basic understanding of the Spurgeon College and MBTS educational experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Able to show courtesy and wisdom in dealing with student issues
  • Skilled in computer technologies, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Able to multitask, analyze workload, and prioritize as necessary for the benefit of the department
  • Able to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need for direct supervision.
  • Able to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency.
  • Must be able to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Must show a desire and willingness to learn
  • Must possess a positive attitude
  • Able to pass background screening, including driving record
  • Eligible to work in the United States

WORKING CONDITIONS

· Normal business hours (M-F)

· Not to exceed 15 hours per week

· Shared office environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequently required to sit or stand for periods of time at a desk or computer station
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently required to spend extended time on the phone
