Description:

SFCC provides a high-quality, geographically, financially and emotionally accessible education to more than 5,000 students who range from traditional college-age students to adult learners.

The college offers associate of arts, associate of fine arts, associate of science and associate of applied science degrees, professional and skills certificates, and noncredit courses and programs, and workforce development training in a 14-county area in central Missouri with locations in Sedalia, Boonville, Clinton, Eldon, Lake of the Ozarks, Warsaw, at Whiteman Air Force Base, and online.


Position Purpose: The Full-Time Dental Hygiene Instructor shall have the primary responsibility of teaching and supervising dental hygiene students in classroom and clinical enrichment experiences. As such, will uphold and follow all policies and regulations of the college.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Uphold and help maintain CODA accreditation standards.
  • Uphold and help maintain college and program policies and procedures.
  • Maintain assigned master and section course syllabi for the program.
  • Stay current in knowledge of the specific subjects he or she is teaching.
  • Participate in training/professional development for all DH faculty.
  • Advise individual dental hygiene students regarding academic standing, absenteeism, clinical performance, and/or personal needs as necessary (according to program policy).
  • Collaborate with Director and staff regarding student evaluation.
  • Assist with and participate in graduation/pinning activities.
  • Create outcomes assessment reports, including program review, annual assessment of faculty, program, and course curriculum, and plan of action.
  • Collaborate with Student Success Coordinator regarding Student Success.
  • Assist in maintaining clinical equipment and supplies.
  • Supervise and monitor students' use of instruments and equipment.
  • Prepare reports and maintain records such as student grades, attendance, and training activity details, with updates and communication sharing within expected time frames.
  • Participate in and evaluate goals for recruitment, admission, retention, promotion, and graduation of students.
  • Ensure confidentiality of student records.
  • Participate in student activities as appropriate.
  • Provide appropriate instructional experiences to meet the objectives of the program.
  • Work with the clinical facilities to provide the most suitable clinical experiences for students.
  • Participate in Clinical Forum regarding student progress and faculty communication.
  • Participate in documentation for program and campus.
  • Instruct students on clinical performance, attendance, professionalism, or other concerns as needed.
  • Confer with the Director or other resources for ordering and preparing instructional material or any instructional difficulties encountered.
  • Utilize web shells, classroom technology, computers, and other instructional aids as appropriate.
  • Convene and dismiss classes with punctuality.
  • Meet SFCC expectations of in-service attendance.
  • Attend and participate in staff and department meetings, Advisory Board meetings, Career Days, school functions, promotions, and activities, student success meetings, and professional DH organizations.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary for the function of the program and college.

Required Qualifications:

  • Shall be currently licensed to practice as a Registered Dental Hygienist in Missouri.
  • Shall be a dental hygienist who is a graduate of a program accredited by CODA.
  • Shall be current in BLS/CPR certification.
  • Shall be current in all required immunizations.

Education/Experience:

  • Shall have a baccalaureate degree or higher, or is currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program.
  • Shall have the equivalent of 3 years of full-time or part-time experience within 5 years. Experience shall be in dental hygiene.

Skills:

  • The Full-Time Dental Hygiene Instructor is expected to carry a minimum instruction load of 12 credit hours per semester (Fall and Spring) and 6 credit hours in the summer. Additional credit hours of instruction must be approved by the Director. Full time instructors are expected to work their contractual days, which is generally considered for the faculty to be available during business hours, complete their assigned teaching load, hold 10 office hours weekly, meet with students as needed, participate in campus and departmental meetings, and any other work as assigned.
