Work Location: Broadway Villages in Vallejo, CA

Employment Details: Full Time, Non Exempt role

Schedule: Sunday - Thursday 3 PM - 11:30 PM, will also be required to be on call every other week and weekends for afterhours emergencies.

Compensation: $25.75 - 28/hour

About the role: We are searching for an Onsite Maintenance Technician for our Permanent Supportive Housing Program located in Vallejo. This program provides 1-bedroom apartments to 47 participants. This person must live onsite at the property. On-site housing will be at a significantly reduced cost, with the value of lodging counted toward wages as allowed under California labor regulations.

What you’ll do:

Property and Facility Standards

  • Ensures that the property is maintained physically to meet the standards set by REAC, HUD and the organization. This is achieved by following procedures established by SHELTER, Inc. and working with vendors, contractors, and property specialist to perform or complete any necessary work.
  • Maintain basic knowledge in all building repair including; electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and carpentry work.
  • Perform the following (including but not limited to): minor repairs to building appliances and fixtures, repair and change locks, replace floor tile, clear clogged drains, repair or replace plumbing fixtures, patch holes in walls, clean unit interiors, perform miscellaneous carpentry repairs, perform minor masonry duties, interior and exterior painting, build or repair fences, install window coverings, install carpet, install major appliances and light fixtures.
  • Abides by, suggests any safety procedures.
  • Ensures all vacant unit turnover procedures are followed; that turnovers are accomplished in a timeframe and manner consistent with the organization’s standards and the property’s budgetary goals and limitations.
  • Prepares written recommendations for physical repairs and/or replacements and provide to supervisor.
  • Walk the community grounds daily. Maintain good curb appeal, including landscaping.
  • Inspect the property on a regular basis for safety hazards, property damage and needed repairs.
  • Handle any emergency that may arise on the property following steadfast policies and procedures.

Resident and Tenant Relations

  • Promote and foster harmonious relations among residents, tenants, vendors, and the community promptly and professionally as needs/issues arise
  • Ability to interact with residents and tenants and handle complaints with reasonable discretion.

What you’ll bring:

  • 2+ years experience performing building maintenance including repairs, carpentry, minor electrical, minor plumbing, painting, refurbishing, cleaning, heating.
  • Working knowledge of building maintenance systems.
  • Must have basic knowledge of Landlord/Tenant Laws, Fair Housing Laws, ADA.
  • Basic understanding of habitability issues and REAC inspection training is highly desired

Position Requirements:

  • Access to reliable personal transportation required, including a DMV record that permits driver to be insured under SHELTER, Inc.’s automobile coverage.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check
  • Must provide TB test clearance
