About This Position
The Golf Shop Manager is responsible for assisting the Director of Golf in managing all golf operations including tournaments, pro shop, cart staff, starter/rangers and beverage cart. This position is also responsible for group golf/tournament sales, planning, and execution of events.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position will supervisor Pro Shop, Cart staff, Starters, Rangers, and Beverage Cart.
Assist the Director of Golf (DOG) with the day-to-day operations of the golf department to include Golf Shop, practice area, starter area, cart staging area, locker rooms and clubhouse area directly related to golf operations at The Equinox Golf Resort & Spa. This includes golfer registration, advance starting times for individuals and day/resort groups, cart (outside) staff functions, ranger/starter staff functions and golf event management. As the Golf Shop Manager, he/she must lead the other staff members by example by showing a high level of professionalism, honesty, integrity, and fairness. Carry out the policies and procedures of the resort while maintaining the highest degree of professionalism and teamwork atmosphere as per standards of service.
- Maintain uniform and grooming standards as outlined in employee handbook for all golf operations staff members.
- Must be well-mannered, always display a helpful attitude, greet guests when encountered, show appreciation to the guest for being at the resort, show a willingness to always help guests and employees.
- Strong customer service orientation and skills. Will be required to solve guest/customer dissatisfaction situations in a positive manner for guests.
- Follow safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all staff members.
- Assist the DOG to assess and offer creative golf event suggestions and recommendations to guest/conferee and golf tournament planner requests.
- Attend (as requested) major industry functions.
- Assist DOG with managing the retail merchandising/sales in Golf Shop.
- Assist DOG with tournament operations for Resort and Day Golf Groups.
- Assist DOG with scheduling of golf operations staff to include making required adjustments as activity levels change during the week of a schedule.
- Make tee times for guests, perform opening and closing procedures, collect golf fees, complete paperwork for accounting, and provide information to guests.
- Plan and execute sales/trips/tradeshows on a local and national basis as prescribed by DOSM/DOG.
- Attend scheduled meetings including weekly management staff meeting, sales meeting, conference reviews, conference services staff meeting, and daily function meeting.
- Supervise Golf Operations staff members in proper opening and closing procedures daily. Includes communication with golf maintenance superintendent and assistant superintendent on daily basis in regard to golf course maintenance activities. Morning review and shift change review with cart staff members and starter/ranger staff members regarding tee sheet and golf group activity for the day.
- Must be familiar with and understand the use of Banquet Event Orders and Meeting Plans prepared by Conference Service staff members. Will be required at times to assist guests with questions related to such documents such as location, time and pricing of events held throughout the Resort property.
- Book definite and tentative business to meet and exceed group room revenue and group golf revenue.
- Send correspondence to follow up on sales activities on a regular basis. Develop creative proposals and send proposals and contracts on a timely basis.
- Fulfill necessary file up-keep through Delphi trace system.
- Plan and execute group events to include but not limited to dates/timing of arrival and departure, room set ups, diagrams, audio visual production needs, rooming lists, special needs, special events, on/off -site entertainment, and transportation. Provide timely communication to all involved.
- Establish and maintain a positive professional relationship through effective and timely communication with Meeting Planners and staff to distribute group needs, using function sheets, daily change log, flash forms, conference reviews, preconference meetings, and written and verbal communication.
- Assess and offer creative suggestions and recommendations while coordinating and verifying rooming lists, transportation needs, meeting room setup, audio visual needs, recreation, food and beverage and billing.
- Working with DOG to ensure all profit margins for the department are maximized. Make necessary adjustments to ensure the budget is achieved.
- Aid in other job classifications as deemed necessary by the General Manager.
Responsibilities
PGA member or PGA associate preferred, but not required. Position will be required to work a varied schedule that may include evenings, nights, and weekends.
