About This Position



The Department of Natural Resources, Support Services Division, is recruiting for an Accounting Technician 2 in Anchorage.


This position is open to Alaska Residents only.

What You Will Be Doing:

Under the guidance of Accounting Technician 3, the Accounting Technician 2 is part of the Accounts Maintenance Unit (AMU) will utilize the Revenue and Billing System (R&B). Daily tasks include but are not limited to: 1) Analyze lease/permit/easement/land sales/payoff accounts for accuracy and process adjustments as needed; 2) Review the agreement postings verifying payments correctly apply to interest, principal, and late fees if applicable; 3) Calculate and process journal entries for identified discrepancies and assist with reviewing accounts prior to bi-weekly billing; 4) Receipt incoming checks and credit card payments, determine the appropriate receipting screen, and enter the payment in R&B; 5) Serve as backup for Accounting Tech II when absent by answering phone calls to take payments and/or address questions while providing exceptional customer service.

As this is an on-site position, you will be working in our finance office located on the 14th floor of the Robert B. Atwood Building with beautiful views of downtown Anchorage. We are looking for a candidate who possesses the following position-specific competencies.

  • Accounting: Knowledge of traditional accounting practices, including accrual, obligations, and cost methods.

One year of entry-level technical accounting or clerical bookkeeping experience.

Substitutions:
Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.

Education

If post-secondary education is required to meet the minimum qualifications, you must fill out the Education section of the application. If you have not yet obtained a degree, please indicate the units you have completed. Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials if used to meet the minimum qualifications for a position.

Education completed at foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the minimum qualifications listed above. If using this education to meet minimum qualification requirements, you must demonstrate that the credentials have been submitted to a private organization specializing in interpreting foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in standard U.S. education programs. Alternatively, an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution must report that the other institution's transcript is given full value or that full value is recognized in relevant subject areas aligned with the post-secondary institution's curricula. It is your responsibility to provide this evidence when applying.
