Hemodialysis Supervisor at CareWell Health – East Orange, New Jersey

Job Summary

A dialysis supervisor reports to the Chief Nursing Officer or designee and oversees dialysis services. Ensures the completion of unit logs, coordinates and notifies appropriate departments of unit’s needs, and reports to the manager for any urgent concerns. The dialysis supervisor schedules work assignments and coordinates treatments for our patients. Unit staff schedules and leads in precepting or overseeing annual competencies with an educator. May perform duties of hemodialysis nurse as needed.

Essential Functions as lead nurse

• Oversee daily hemodialysis workflow.
• Responsible for staff schedule and timesheets to be completed.
• Maintain, coordinate, and order supply inventory par levels.
• Monitor patient schedule and facilitate patient transport to and from the unit and the department.
• Collaborates with nursing management team and nursing education in planning, guiding, and evaluating technical staff’s clinical skills and competency.
• Serves as a clinical and technical expert/support/resource to all staff and physicians.
• Escalate equipment and process failure in a timely fashion to appropriate personnel.
• Gather data and participate in PI projects as needed to comply with TJC guidelines/regulations.
• Present or accessible during regulatory visits.
• Ensures the completion of daily, weekly, monthly, and/or quarterly logs are maintained.
• Educate, train and orient new personnel to radiology process.

Essential Functions as primary nurse

• The dialysis supervisor is responsible for primary nursing duties for patients with kidney disease, which include routine assessments, determining risks, starting and monitoring dialysis, administering transfusions if necessary, recording chart data and information for the nephrologists or kidney doctors to assess the patient’s condition, as well as educating the patient about his or her treatment.
• The dialysis supervisor must also check on and ensure the function of the machine and other necessary equipment during dialysis, training other staff or family members in the proper usage of the dialysis machines and safety protocols for those who require the procedure in their own homes.

Minimum Education/Certifications
Graduate of an accredited program in nursing.

Current Registered Nurse license to practice in the state of NJ.

Certifications required: BLS and ACLS (American Heart Association)

Certification in Nephrology Nursing (CNN) or Certified Dialysis Nurse (DN) highly encouraged but not required.

Maintains acquired knowledge and remains current in advancements in nephrology, in particular, relative to inpatient care (hospitalized patients requiring varied treatment modalities, not limited to Renal Replacement, Aphaeresis, and Ultra filtration services.

Minimum Work Experience
Minimum of one (1) year Medical Surgical Nursing experience preferred with leadership experience such as Charge nurse role.

Hemodialysis and ICU work experience preferred.

Minimum of one (1) year of management or leadership experience preferred.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Must be willing to work holidays, weekends and provide additional coverage as needed
